Last night Hugh did an impromptu gig at the 100 Club in Oxford Street and I was so frigging lucky to get a couple of tickets, along with
helen_of_troy29, so we could take
coconut_ice22 and
ashingtonrave because it was only for around 280 people. What was great was that Hugh's friends and family were there in the row of tables next to the stage, and we were in the row behind... *mind boggles*
Problem was, no photography was allowed, so naturally there are some pictures and videos floating about. Such a stupid idea, maybe they should just prevent flash photography, but there you go. Because of where we were sitting we had such a lovely view of the stage when he was playing the guitar and talking to us all. So cue sneaky picture taking. ;)
I know this makes me sound like an old lady- but honestly, having seats was FANTASTIC. XD Directly in front of us was Jo, Hugh's Wife, their daughter and ROWAN ATKINSON. Yep. He was chilling in front of us with red wine.
Before the show started
This gig had such a relaxed atmosphere: cue Kevin and Hugh bickering about whether they dropped a verse; a lady leaving the loo with the dryer going while Hugh tried to play; him chatting to us about songs off of his New Album, (hurray!) and generally being very fun and entertaining.
Halfway through when the band decide to drink their shot of whisky, Hugh announced he bought the whole crowd a shot each to share while they drank theirs. So we all had this tiny little glass, and all proceeded to chug it down (for a non-drinker this was absolutely vile) but so fun to be part of it. I guess because there wasn't lots of people it's much easier to organise these things.

Anyway so he wasn't sure what to toast, so naturally I shouted, along with some others, that of course Soupy Twist is an excellent toast. But he wasn't having any of it. Then he sounded so disappointed by our suggestions that he went with "Up Yours" LUL.
Although you can't really see it, there's me holding my shot glass, and RA sitting in front.
We had some new songs played for us, though I completely missed him saying what it was called, though it was really nice. I enjoyed us all clapping along to Hallelujah, I love her so. Even though this was towards the end and no one could keep a rhythym even if we tried. So basically we just clapped and swayed along like some drunkards. Perfect. I don't see us been recruited to the Copper Bottom band anytime soon. XD
He did one encore, with Tipitina and everyone loved that. And then we all went back to the station very merrily. I think he did some signings but it was too cold, and I was too lazy and had nothing to sign to wait outside for however long, so I enjoyed my trip home instead. No one sat next to me on the very busy train home, probably because I smelt so much of whiskey that I'd spilt over me. XD
Next time he is in London no way am I going without
sam_doc, I will pay for her ticket if I have to. ♥ ♥
