I watched Hawaii 5-O again last night. I want to like it because it brings up all sort of wonderful nostalgic Magnum PI feelings and I like Scott Caan. It seems like it could be a fun, escapist show. But, geez, the actor that plays Steve is just so freaking boring and bland. It seems like they're trying to make him into some sort of Michael Westin character, but that guy doesn't have half the charisma that Jeffery Donovan has in his pinky. Was this the best they could do in casting? Especially, when his costars are so awesome and interesting, it makes him look like even boring. That statue of King Kamahameha that they keep showing would probably be more interesting as Steve. Geez, people.
One of the reasons that I like Scott Caan is that he is so awesome at banter. But it's like Danno's banter is being sucked into a black hole when he going at it with Steve. It's painful. Danno, please just ditch Steve and just hang out with Chin Ho and Konno. They're so much cooler and interesting and actually have different inflections in their voices.
If I were to recast Steve, hmmm... Let's see, who are some great actors without a show right now? I know, Ben Browder. He could do tough Navy guy and he can banter. He'll have to get a tan though, he was looking a little pasty at DragonCon. Or sticking with the poor series-less Stargate actors, maybe Joe Flanigan. He'd be good too. Anybody, really.
I'll probably give it a couple more watches and live in hope.
Why do I not have a Magnum icon. I should have a Magnum icon. I'll use Life instead. Oh, networks why must you cancel awesome shows.
