"Galadriel!" I blurted, and Rameses turned to me. That was Cate Blanchett's character's name in Lord of the Rings. We had just watched Robin Hood--not my idea--and we had been talking about a scene where she shows up in armor, and how I half expected her to take up a sword and say, "I AM no man!" Yes, I know it was actually Eowyn, played by Miranda Otto, but it was the spirit of the thing. Anyway, I had forgotten the name of Blanchett's elf character and then amazingly recalled it a few minutes later, out of thin air, like a processor working in the background and delivering the answer to you. It might have been more life-affirming if we weren't at Reno's, playing cheap pool, drinking $1.75 beers, and listening to some of the worst karaoke I've heard in a while.
Because I have too much time on my hands, I drove out to the west side of Houston for some Korean food for lunch. With the Mantourage in tow, I went to BonGa Restaurant, on Longpointe. We ate a seafood pancake, sam gyup sal, kalbi, and some dweiji sundubu. It was all delicious, and hopefully the menfolk enjoyed their foray into Korean cuisine. It was such a pain, though, to drive nearly an hour there, an hour back, and then have to go to work.
Work was painful. Supervising is stressful, particularly on my feet, since I'm insisting on wearing my heels as long as I can stand them. We did respectable sales today with a bare-bones staff, and now I'm relaxing at home with a glass of carmenere. I poured myself the usual half-glass, then after taking a sip, then gulp, I filled the glass to the brim. It's just too delicious. And it reminds me of Sarah and Santiago, especially since this particular bottle is Concha y Toro.
I finally used my E-book reader at work, and it made the long hours at the beginning, before all hell broke loose, much easier to bear. I think I'll take it to bed with me, and take a break from reading Nine Gates, Jane Linskold's sequel to Thirteen Orphans that, along with the anime Saki, got me into mahjong. Right now I'm mahjong'd out. I think I need to either teach new people to play or find a local tournament. Takers?
