the debate over waxing verses shaving the downstairs area has been raging for some time now, here i will offer my personal experiences and opinions on the matter
( Read more... )
i should start an "auntie-doctor vicci" column hey! or not..
anyway, back to business. i can fully relate to your shaving dramas, more than once a week with a razor down there is too much for my kitty to handle and once a week, for me, is just not enough smoothness.
do not, i repeat, do NOT ever go to essential beauty again and do not compare your dreadful experience there to what usually goes on during a wax. i have been to E-B before, the hygiene standards are deplorable and the technique and professionalism leaves a lot to be desired.
unfortunately, i have been on the receiving end of more than a few bad waxes. this has left me with bruising on my inner thighs and poonie, hair where there shouldnt have been and a lot of undue-tenderness. luckily, i haven't been infected, but i have heard of people who have been infected with HEP-C through E-B. tragic!
i understand the desire of wishing it would all just dissappear, but sadly, that's not gonna happen anytime soon. if i was maga-rich and could afford it, i would look into electrosis, but from what i've heard about electrosis, it can take more than one session to kill all the hair follicles and again, the sessions can be quite painful.
for the longest lasting, freshest smooth feeling i will once again recommend waxing. you have sat through 3 hours of tattooing on your BACK and a wax only lasts for 15 mins. for you, i can compare to tatts coz you know what its like..
for my one on my hip, it took about 20min-1/2hr, at first it just vibrated me like crazy (and i got a crush on my artist) but after a little while the back and forth of the needle started to get a little tingly and slightly irritating..
a wax on your poonie will be less intense than this, a good waxist like ann will only need to do each small section once, so you do not have the repeated pulling and tugging on your skin. the wax she uses is much more gentle on your skin and i havent had any adverse reactions to it. and remember, its a quick snap and pull and you're all fixed up. for all the drama you go through shaving (plus the regrowth is uncomfortable, where-as with waxing its hardly noticable) you may as well take that step and try another wax.
i suggest you book in with ann for a wax (keep in mind the advice concerning your "cycles" in the comments above) and try it again. your first wax after shaving will hurt somewhat, but breathe, remember it will be over in 15 mins and you will just love the results you get! (and its cheaper than E-B!) if its a little tender, take some panafen (for period pain etc) as it will help reduce the inflamation/tenderness and put some baby cream/sorbelene on your kitty once you get home which will help reduce the redness.
the next wax will be much easier, believe you me! and you will wonder why you ever shaved in the first place!
a friend of mine had laser treatment on her bikini line... she said it hurt like she was being flicked over & over with a rubber band, was red for a couple of hours, and then it went away, and the hair grew back so much thinner & lighter. it usually takes 4 sessions or something i think, depending on how coarse and dark your hair is, and it's expensive but it's permanant. i'm contemplating trying it, albeit, no money. sigh.
owies! i don't know if i could stand that just to get rid of everything... i mean, maybe, but i'd probably want a lot of pain meds before i went through with it!
haha, yeah, i have no pain tolerance at all. though i suppose you could probably get some sort of numbing cream from your doctor or chemist. maybe i'll try that before i get waxed. yeouchhh.
i'm okay, maybe because i keep telling myself that the human body/brain doesnt actually remember pain and it's all in our heads so i should just get over it and pretend like it's not happening and then the pain will go away..
but really, it is not that bad, and when you have it done and you remember how good it feels to be so fresh and smooth all your worries will disappear!
haha, i'm bored at work and an idiot so don't mind me :)
