African folkloric embroidery

I attended a workshop on African Folklore Embroidery. I found it fun and it was outside my normal interests. I promised the teacher I would complete my projects by Road to California, so I'm working on them. (It's a total of 4 small patterns and I'm making them into an apron.)

My impression of African art was that it is mostly very primitive and rather crude. Bright colors.

What I am finding is that it is not so crude as it is "free", and not so primitive as it is "flowing". As an artform, it's not precise, it's not constrained, it's not restrictive. It's quite fun to play with.
