OOC: notes on how I play the game, and pretty pictures!

It recently came to my attention that some people who are familiar with the game Ali is based on, Changeling: the Dreaming were confused by some of the things I do. I hope that this will help them understand, as well as giving anyone else who cares to read this a better understanding of the beautiful mixed-up World of Darkness in which Ali is forced to live.

I've been playing C:tD for nearly a decade now. This character has been around for about eight years now, I think (I'd have to check with her creator on that though). Over the years, a lot has changed, both in the canon and in myself. I started out with just the first edition book (not even the cards!), and now...well, I don't have them all, but I have a very large percent of the rulebooks. I've also learned a lot more. Studies of diverse religions, philosophies, history, art, and more have made me a very different person than I was when I started in the game.

One of the things I've always loved about the WoD is that it encouraged people to find outside sources and change the game as it best fit the person playing. By now, I have a lot of "house rules". I've added things, some things I leave out. I've tried to streamline some aspects to make them work better in settings where there's no ability to roll dice or play rock-paper-scissors. I've incorporated new technology and recent discoveries into the game.

So yes: there's a great deal about the Dreaming as I present it that differs from the books. But that's the beauty of the system, in my eyes: we can make the game whatever we want it to be.

Please, if I'm confusing you, ask me for clarification! I'm always happy to try and explain things.

Also, I've been going around the web and collecting pictures to help illustrate the Dreaming for everyone who visits it with Ali and the other fae from Boston. If you can point me to more things you think will be good for this project, I'd love to see them.

ETA: Do keep in mind I'm still horribly sleep deprived right now, so if this doesn't make any sense, I apologize.
