A long and restless night alone had done nothing to improve Ali's temper. Jareth's remorseless ripping away of her will and self-control left her feeling vulnerable, more hurt than angry--and plenty of both. So morning found her pacing the halls near Gawain's room, waiting for him to wake so they could be off. She wouldn't even give him time to break fast, promising fare they could both enjoy as soon as they reached their destination.
It was, at least, a short journey. Once they had taken their leave of their majesties, it was only a ride far enough away to be plausibly gone and out of sight before Ali reined in. "Do you trust me, Gawain? This can be... a bit unsettling."
