The problem with an impulsive and generous nature was that there were certain kinds of items Ali would rarely be able to own for long. This rarely bothered her, because the items she would give away were not the sort to which she'd often become attached. But music, that was another story. She might not be a great artist, but her appreciation ran both broad and deep--and she disliked going without. She'd waited as long as she could hold out, hoping Jareth would return the iPod she now suspected he meant to keep, and finally replaced it. And while she did have backups of most of the files, there were elaborate playlists she'd put together on whims or with very particular purposes that she knew she couldn't easily recreate.

And yet, this beautiful day found her trying, stretched out in a lounge chair in the shade while the goslings and their friends ran around in the yard, working off an excellent lunch in anticipation of an even greater dinner. The shadow of the country house, too often empty, crept along the grass in a slow game of tag with the willows, sheltering the twins while they napped and their mother while she took advantage of a few hours mostly to herself. She knew she was missing something, probably a lot of somethings--she'd have to ask Sel to fill in the gaps later. But for now, she had a more pressing concern: an original studio recording, or a live version? Decisions, decisions. She'd just have to listen to them both one more time before she made her choice.

If only all her decisions were so strenuous as listening to a lovely voice.

music, country manors are charming, jareth, goslings, twins
