I am very well. *he looks up at her* I see you have found a new captain to amuse you in my absence. *his tone is apparently mild*

"I much prefer your company," she assures with a hint of pain in her voice, "but you left without saying anything."

*That hits him - a palpable hit, right in his good manners. The sudden need to go back to the island had occurred to him so suddenly, and in the middle of the night, too, that he simply had not thought to tell her, or even leave a note. He's not used to the idea that people might actually be concerned about where he was gone to*

*he bows, a very formal bow, to cover his expression*

"It's okay. You're not obligated to tell me. But I worry when my friends disappear."

*he straightens, feeling oddly chastened and uncomfortable. Usually Ali's company makes him more relaxed*

*She's getting his best-behaviour voice*

"I know. You just didn't think about it." She glances up at him, giving him a 'hug me now or there'll be consequences' look.

*he recognises the look, and steps forward to close the distance between them, reaching out to her and running his hand and his metal wrist down her arms. He tilts his head to look at her, eyes sincere*

In future, I give you my word I will think about it.

"Thank you." She relaxes when he touches her, leaning against him and wrapping her arms around him. "I missed you."

*And there, he relaxes too. Being away had pushed him rapidly back into some of his old habits: standoffish and untouchable, but Ali has cured him of this by simply telling him she missed him. His arms come about her in turn and hold, tightly*

"You're welcome...for what?" She kisses his cheek and nuzzles there, looking much much happier now.

"Oh. You're welcome." She smiles, though she'd prefer being thanked for those other things. "I like taking care of you."
