Time has just been flying by these days...it's scary. Jonathan was out of work for three months. Bastard. He did, however, get a kick ass job eventually; he's a Network Administrator at Bellevue Community College. He gets angry when I talk about how much he's making...so let's just say he's basically doubled his previous income. Which is sweet. Since he got some time off, I decided to get the hell out of the Legal Department, which yet again gave me a bad-ish review (the HR manager said she didn't really want to change anything because she's not actually working with me...so instead of allowing me a clean slate, she fucking shits on me and lets my file get tarred), so I've been "part time" for a couple weeks now. "Part time" is in parenthesis because my boss in Courts has kind of taken my sudden freedom as an opportunity to make me work more at Courts...which is fine, I guess.
Received my first taste of a courtroom as a Clerk...it's intimidating. Plus, if an ass-hat attorney is yammering on about something retarded trying to get their client off the hook, and I glance towards the Prosecutor from lack of anything else to look at, and he's making silly faces because the attorney is being so dumb, it's really hard not to start laughing. You've gotta have your "I'm an angry Government Worker" face on at all times. Which I've mastered at the Passport window. I will be really glad to get off that window. Sure, the same monotonous questions will change from "where do I get photos" to "What do you mean I have a warrant!?!", but change is good right now. My boss is also trying to get my future position re-classified, which would mean at least $400 more a month! Jonathan and I are going from "poor, but comfortable" to "Holy shit! Money is falling from the sky!" Ha, who am I kidding; we're already finding new toys to spend it on. Jonathan just got an '08 Mazda3. I currently have a Nissan Altima in mind. Our iPhones come in a week (yes, beware, the world is ending; Arica has purchased an Apple product). Also, I want to get into a house. Uh...and Disney World in January, possibly with Rishelle and Megan... Yeah, it'll be like we never got an increase at all. That's alright. We're still moving in the right direction. The shittiness of the beginning of the year is finally balancing out.
I know no matter what job I have, I'll always rather not be there, but so far Courtroom work is quite humorous. Last week we had a Contested calendar where a middle-aged woman was looking over her rap sheet and decided she was upset at what she saw, asking the Prosecutor how she could get charges removed that "weren't hers". We pulled up her history to see what she was talking about; she was upset over two theft 3rd degrees...the rest of her criminal history, I kid you not, was nothing but years and years of child molestation and rape charges, half of them found guilty. But she was upset about minor theft charges and was contesting a speeding ticket...Wow. Another Contested hearing was a woman trying to get out of a "Driving too fast for conditions" ticket. Basically, all that ticket means is "you hit someone/something, and this is the legal jargon for that.". Ends up, she had hit a Bothell High student, who flew up into the air and landed on the physics/forensics teacher's car. He was a witness for the Prosecutor, and because he's the fucking forensics teacher, he actually reenacted the accident to "prove" the driver was speeding. He was the greatest witness ever. Somehow, the girl hit looked completely fine, too. Needless to say, the woman who hit her did not get out of the ticket.
