So yes, it was 10 days ago but I'm finally posting about my birthday here.
The day itself was good... I unwrapped presents with Alex on the phone (because he wasn't in the country) and went out to dinner with mum and dad. In between there were some cute moments (a tinkerbell card selected by one of my co-workers kids and a piece of cake in a box almost accidentally being thrown at me by one of these kids because he stumbled as he went to give it to me), some happy moments (being able to wish a "birthday twin" - who is also a patient - happy birthday when we saw her) and some sad ones (realising I wasn't going to ever receive a birthday card from Aunty Jean again, and greeting and consoling a patient whose husband had just passed away). There were also a lot of facebook messages which always makes me feel guilty because I never seem to remember to wish other people happy birthday on there :S
Alex getting home (a week later) was really nice too. Although we haven't explicitly done anything birthday related - except for him eating one of the cupcakes I made (from packet mix) for myself as birthday cake, oh and birthday cuddles!
And then yesterday afternoon
elfinblaze,
starwolvie and
flylikethewind and I all went to see the latest, and last Harry Potter movie. It was a bit like my birthday actually, there were happy moments, brilliant one liners, tender moments, sad moments... it was all very well done. I've really enjoyed the last two movies far more than I enjoyed the last book... although as
elfinblaze said even the movie couldn't redeem the epilogue (although Albus Severus' pet was a very nice touch and has me quietly thinking about working it into a fanfic). I won't say anything much more about the movie because people may not have seen it yet, and also because I don't think I'm the kind of person who could write a review that would do it justice.
We then came back to my place for dinner where I attempted to not splash oil on
starwolvie with oil, but did manage to get myself, and then Romilly and I taught Bec and Regi to play mahjong or attempted to teach them with the set that Romilly gave me as a birthday present. I think we taught them too well. We played 7 hands, Regi and Bec won three each and Romilly won one. I know there's beginners luck and all but seriously that's a bit ridiculous... :)
And now it's sunday and my birthday was 10 days ago, and I'm ready for it to be over and done for nearly another year... although I think there may still be some things to come (seeing as my sister and her husband were also overseas for the actual day)... but what I really wanted to say was just thank you. Thank you to everyone who was somehow involved in it.
