Characters: Utena, Chase (open to anyone else!)
Day and Time: Night 1, Shift 2 - 4:30 AM
Location: Library, then probably the hallways
Content: Utena, unable to sleep, wanders into the library to find Erik's challenges. Unfortunately for her, Chase is also a bit of a night owl.
Warnings: Monster fight will most likely come up once they venture into the halls.
Utena had finally gotten to bed just after a bath and Erik's second radio announcement, more out of bodily exhaustion than any desire to actually sleep. If she had had her way, she would have stayed up longer and not wasted any time. She couldn't leave Akio, Anthy, and Wakaba wondering about her for longer than necessary. So, with much reluctance, she let her body take the rest it needed, drifting impatiently in and out of sleep for a few hours before deciding to get back up.
Eventually, she found herself back in the library, vaguely remembering something having been said about that place in the announcement. She came armed with her broom, its tip broken into sharp splinters as Zuko had suggested. Despite feeling like she should have a weapon just in case, however, she didn't really feel as though she would need it in the library. She wasn't sure what it was, but the library felt safer than other areas of the house. She hadn't seen or heard any traces of monsters in all the time she had spent there earlier, nor were there any as she walked through the aisles of bookshelves now.
"Now what did that guy say we were supposed to look for in here?" she wondered aloud, scratching her head as she turned a corner. "Something that looks like it'd hold a..."
Utena blinked as she caught sight of two conspicuous pedestals off in an area of the library she hadn't gone through before, each with one book on top. "Heh, well if that isn't obvious then I don't know what is," Utena said with a quiet chuckle. She hurried over to the pedestals, curious to see what the books would hold despite not being too fond of that Erik person.
Of the two books, one was unmarked, and the other read "Bestiary" on the cover. Utena started with the unmarked book. As far as she could see, most of the pages were blank, save for four. The first two bore a haiku on the left-hand page and an illustration on the right-hand page, and the third and fourth pages repeated the pattern. Written in elegant black script, the first haiku read:
Collect three headcrab
claws, get batteries. Sweet deal.
No, Lamarrs don't count.
The accompanying illustration was very detailed and looked almost exactly like Lamarr, only with sharp teeth visible in its mouth.
The second haiku read:
Three monsters, any kind.
Kill them, and a bat is yours.
Swing away, retards.
Utena frowned at that. Erik certainly had an... interesting sense of humour. The illustration for this one was, predictably, of a baseball bat.
"Hmm, I wouldn't mind a baseball bat. Broom feels like it's going to break if I use it for much longer," Utena mused quietly, running her thumb over the drawing. It looked almost exactly like the model Ohtori's baseball team used, which only made her want it more.
