Well, I went and did it. I got married in Jamaica on New Years eve. It was the culmination of a year long effort. Since buying the ring last January in Ocho Rios, we meticulously planned the trip, got the passports, made the reservations, bought our wedding clothes and took the plunge.
Jamaica was nice this year, again. We snorkled on the reef off of the hotel in Ocho Rios and relaxed a lot. The second half of the trip was in Negril, which is a tourist spot. Some friends of ours loved Negril, but I didn't enjoy it so much, partly because the hotel, nay, Motel we were at was a big disappointment. However, that of course may be a reaction to the spacious and cozy hotel we had come from on Ocho Rios. Still, we had fun swimming and taking tours on the rivers and to the Appleton Estates distillery.
I took hours of video, including underwater at the reef and made a nice DVD that we showed Leanna's parents. If I have the time, I'll make it better and send it to my sister.
Back home and at the beginning of the year, I now need to concentrate on my projects for this year. My goals for projects are:
1) Landscaping
2) Welding
3) Car
4) Renewable energy
1) Landscaping - I want to clear out the back yard a bit and cut down most of the tallest trees. The last few years, high winds have brought down several tall trees. So far, nothing has hit my house or my neighbors, but I don't feel like waiting around for it. I want to take down the majority of the tall trees and select some of the smaller trees to be allowed to grow. I also want to mill the biggest trees into rough cut lumber to use to build a shed or work shop in the back corner.
2) Welding - I want to take a 10 week welding course starting in February so I can do my own rust repair on the car.
3) Car - For this year, if I can "chase the rust out of the car" and get a coat of primer on it, I'll be happy. However, at a minimum, I'd like to get the floor pans replaced.
4) Renewable energy - I am determined to get some sort of renewable energy solution set up at my house. Sometime this winter, I want to get an anemometer setup and begin tracking the amount of wind energy at my house.
So, those are the personal projects I want to work on this year. Pretty ambitious. But, if I can pull of getting married in Jamaica, the rest should be a snap.
