Prop 8 Overturned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So… while I've been using my account to comment on all kinds of awesome fic this past year, I've haven't posted anything since last November.  The overturning of Prop 8 is the perfect time to come back here and squeeeeeeee!!

My husband and I live in Colorado and were only peripherally aware of Prop 8 when it originally went on the ballot. Our thoughts on the matter were along the lines of "It's California!  There's no way that will pass."  Needless to say, we were stunned and angry when it DID pass.  I think people like he and I are a big part of the reason such a travesty was able to become law. We are completely against the anti-gay agenda (and yes, I think there IS an actual agenda) but we are also wrapped up in our own lives and not all that likely to get involved in…well anything really. We still are not what anyone would call ‘active’. We have not yet reached the point where we will march in protest, though that might be more due to the fact that our lives are so hectic. (Hubby is only home 2-3 days a week.)  We have made sure to let our thoughts be known in the voting booth, however.

With the exception of my in-laws and sister-in-law, hubby and I are pretty much in the minority in this family.  Even my parents say that they are against gay marriage, though their argument seems to be along semantic lines. They don't mind gay marriage as long as it’s not CALLED marriage.  (Yeah, the logic of that escapes me.)   I have argued with my parents, but must admit to not confronting the myriad of relatives on my husband’s side of the family who regularly post their opinions on Facebook. My personality is probably best described as non-confrontational and I have yet to shake the mentality that it is better to keep my head down, and not start a fight with the family. (I’m working on that.)

Anyway, I’m not a writer in any fashion. Getting my thoughts down in any kind of a coherent, descriptive way, takes a long, long time. I will end this post by saying that I am greatly heartened by Prop 8 being overturned, even if it comes with a big legal battle looming in the future.
