Amid this disaster, I have to say that the Japanese sense of community is really impressive.

People have seemingly remained calmed. No looting, no robberies, no chaos from the population. People are simply working together to find loved ones and move on.

The images I saw yesterday in the news were heartbreaking:
A man looking for his wife in his bike...
A man looking for his employees, just to make sure all of them (50 I believe) are okay and survived...
Young girls who look aloof and yet make lines for hours to give drinks and food to families with small children...

All of this is admirable to me because when a big earthquake happened here (7.8 Ritcher scale), there were bastards who tried to take advantage of people's misery. Even more impressive is having CEOs and presidents apologize for the worry their companies have inflicted in the population (e.g. Fukushima nuclear plant). I don't think I've ever heard CEOs from Wall Street say "I'm sorry for screwing up the country and the rest of the world." Yes, a nuclear reactor melting is not small business, but the fact that these people had the conscience to apologize is already a big step (at least in my opinion).

Best wishes to all the victims of this quake and may hope keep them going.
