My mother posted this little gem on facebook today:
“Before you speak ask yourself if what you are going to say is true, is kind, is necessary, is helpful. If the answer is no, maybe what you are about to say should be left unsaid.”

In response to which, I wrote:
Almost everything spoken is believed to be true. And almost nothing spoken is necessary.
And speech which is either helpful or kind, need be neither true nor necessary.
