Summary: Hankyung's words spark off a series of thoughts in Eunhyuk's mind.
A/N: Fic for renichifreak! It’s finally up! I know I said yesterday, but when I read it, I kind of deleted a whole chunk of it and re-wrote it. I don’t know if it’s exactly like what you wanted. I really tried to write the fluff and happiness into it. You know I started out the plot with too much angst in it. And I don’t know how that happened when the plot you gave me was obviously happy. But I hope you enjoy it! If not I’ll always attempt another one!^^ Oh and please name the fic! Since it’s for you, I figured you should have the right to name it! (or shall I say that I’m just lazy? Or out of ideas for a title?)
To everyone else: enjoy the fic. And please comment on my first try at happy fic and Eunhae( well 2nd try at this couple).
Eunhyuk mopped around the house, wondering where everyone was. He flopped down onto the sofa when he finally admitted to himself that he was home alone. It had been a long time since he had been alone, one of the perks and sometimes down point of being in a group of thirteen. Flipping through the channels, Eunhyuk’s thoughts wandered to the reasons why he had not seen a certain fish ever since Super Junior-M had returned to Korea. No one seemed to have seen his fish these few days. Eunhyuk pouted, sinking further into the sofa. It was no fun to have a rest day when there was no one to spend it with, especially when there was no precious fish to play with.
Flipping open his phone, his fingers hovered over a number, about to press it when he realised something.
Right, Junsu’s in Japan right now. Sighing, he closed his phone, wondering what he should do next. Play game? He moved towards the computer, the few times it was not hogged by their residential gamer - Kyuhyun. Logging on to the game, Eunhyuk tried to be engrossed in the game.
Ten minutes later and a frustrated sigh, Eunhyuk slammed his hands down on the keyboard. He could not focus for more than a minute on the game. His interest kept wavering when he realised that it was not fun playing alone. Not caring that he was in the middle of a game, he exited the game, vaguely hearing a voice that sounded suspiciously like a certain magnae asking “Hyung, can I continue it for you?” Eunhyuk was about to sigh again, for he knew that hearing voices in his head was not something normal, when the door to their dorm opened.
Immediately, Eunhyuk spun his chair around such that he was facing the door. He pounced onto the person that was entering the dorm, not even bothering to check who the person was. As long as it’s someone to cure my boredom!
“Hannie-hyung!”
His enthusiasm scared the Chinese man who entered the dorm, only to get an armful of his dongsaeng who was about to turn a year older in a few days.
“I’m bored Hyung. Play with me.”
Eunhyuk whined into Hankyung’s chest, getting patted like a kitten by the older.
“Can’t. I’m just here to get something Chullie left here the other day. He’s screaming for it.”
Hankyung gently detached Eunhyuk from him, leaving the younger to sulk at his statement.
“Hyung~! Can’t you risk Heechul-hyung’s wrath for me?”
Eunhyuk showed his puppy-dog eyes at Hankyung. He could see his hyung wavering under the power of his puppy-dog eyes. Just a bit more. Just a tiny bit more.
His face turned into a pout when Hankyung picked up his phone.
“Hello?”
Eunhyuk could vaguely hear Heechul’s voice over the phone, screaming at Hankyung.
“Yes, yes. I’ve got it.” Hankyung tried to pacify the other as he walked to the sofa, picking up the scarf that was on one of the pillows.
“Yes, I’m on my way now.”
Hankyung shifted the phone away from his ears as Heechul proceeded to scream into the phone, telling him to be back as soon as possible. Sighing as he closed his phone, Hankyung shook his head apologetically at Eunhyuk.
“Sorry, I have to go. Can’t risk the princess’s wrath. Or you’ll never see me again.”
Hankyung put on his shoes as Eunhyuk followed him to the door, with an even more pronounced pout on his face.
“Why not find Donghae? I’m sure he’ll play with you.”
“Why Donghae?” Eunhyuk tilted his head, wondering what made Hankyung to pick Donghae of all people.
“Hmmm? I thought you like each other.” Hankyung exited the dorm, answering his phone as he left.
“Yes, I’m on my way. I’m not Superman, you know. I can’t teleport from here to there in seconds…”
The conversation drifted off, leaving a confused Eunhyuk staring with his mouth wide-open at the random statement left by his hyung.
“I thought you like each other.”
What…?
Eunhyuk walked into his room, Hankyung’s words still reverberating in his head.
“… you like each other.”
He sat down on his bed, hugging one of his numerous stuffed toys to him. Do we really like each other?
“I missed you, Hyukkie!”
Eunhyuk spun around, half expecting a certain alien obsessed fish to jump on him. The room was empty. I must be dreaming.
Placing the stuffed toy down - not before realising that it was a fish, Eunhyuk opened his cupboard, deciding to change and head down to the dance studio. His hand hovered over a yellow shirt, about to take it out when his hand automatically shifted to another yellow shirt.
“I like this one better!”
Eunhyuk still did not get what the difference between the two shirts was, but apparently they were different according to Donghae. Pausing slightly as he was pulling the shirt over his head, he wondered why he remembered that statement anyway. He shrugged, convincing himself that he preferred this shirt to the other for it was more comfortable to wear -and not because of what Hae said.
Eunhyuk walked along the street, his mind bent towards arriving at the studio as quickly as possible, and not to be distracted by the stores around him that screamed Donghae to him, like the store selling alien accessories, or the store with the game of scooping fishes out of the water with a paper net.
I must be going crazy.
Eunhyuk continued to walk on, even when a voice that sounded suspiciously like the person who had been on his mind ever since Hankyung made that statement called out his name.
Don’t answer. You’re just dreaming. You’re dreaming.
Eunhyuk muttered under his breath as his footsteps increased in speed, until he was almost running down the pathway.
Eunhyuk was panting by the time he had arrived at the dance studio, making the security wonder if any fans had been chasing him down the road.
“You could say that.” Eunhyuk muttered, as the security guard asked him if he needed help in stopping the fans. “The only crazy fan right now is in my head.”
Looking up at the security, Eunhyuk smiled, shaking his head as he reassured the guard that there was no real fan chasing behind him. Still looking bewildered, the guard let him go.
Entering the dance practice room, Eunhyuk sank down onto the floor, staring at the mirror in front of him. You’re not going crazy, Hyuk. No you’re not.
He stood up and strode towards the player, pushing the play button. Looking at the mirror, with a determined look on his face, Eunhyuk danced.
Not caring that the music was something he had never heard before, Eunhyuk let his body respond. There was a reason why he was the best dancer in Super Junior, together with Hankyung, Shindong and Donghae - because they can all lose themselves to the music while dancing, just like how K.R.Y. lost their souls to the music singing.
Eunhyuk twisted his body, moving together with the rhythm of the music, as if one with the music. The joints broke at every thud of the song, at places that most would deem as humanely impossible unless you were called Lee Hyukjae. Pumping his chest at the high point of the song, Eunhyuk dedicated his all to the music. He thrust his hips from side to side; an action that would make all fans swoon and faint if they ever saw it and a certain fish to imagine things Eunhyuk would never thought the innocent boy would think of. He moved in total control of his body, ending the song with a strong stomp to the floor, pointing his finger at his reflection in the mirror, sweat dripping down his face, causing his hair to fall over his face.
Eunhyuk turned around, a smile forming on his face as he spoke.
“What do you think about it Hae?”
The words left his mouth before his brain registered the fact that he was here alone today. He sighed as he was met with silence - obviously for you’re here alone.
Wiping the sweat off his forehead, he prepared himself as the next song appeared on the player.
This time, he tried to get his mind off the fact that his favourite dance partner was nowhere in sight. He twisted his body, wincing at the awkwardness he was portraying in the mirror, tried to do breaking - something he was doing so perfectly in the previous song - which did not work out. Everything he tried was not going well. His mind kept drifting off, especially towards a certain fish named Donghae.
“Argh!”
Eunhyuk gave up, sinking to the floor. He could not even lose himself to dancing right now for his mind was totally occupied by the little comments Donghae always made when they were dancing together. The quietness was simply too unnerving for him.
When everything you do reminds you of a certain person, then you’re in love with the person.
The sentence echoed in his mind. Eunhyuk had no idea where he heard it from, but it seemed to describe his situation completely.
Does it mean that I love him?
Eunhyuk was confused, but he knew that his mind had been occupied by thoughts of a bubbly, enthusiastic, innocent, adorable, alien-obsessed as well as fish-obsessed, handsome, sexy, must be brilliant in b…
Eunhyuk halted his thoughts. Did I just think that?
He shook his head vigorously. It had been like this the whole day ever since Hankyung-hyung said those words to him. Hankyung-hyung.
“It’s all Hannie-hyung’s fault!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the time Eunhyuk got back to the dorm, everyone had already gotten back from their schedules and the dorm was once again noisy and full of life.
“Hyukkie, come! Let’s have dinner.”
The owner of the voice was none other than Donghae, the person who had been haunting his thoughts for the past eight hours or so.
Eunhyuk tried to hide the blush that was forming on his face as he remembered what he was thinking about in the dance studio. But he did not resist the grip Donghae had on him, enjoying the tingling sensation of Donghae’s warm hands on him.
They all sat around the table, fighting over the food Hankyung and Ryeowook had made for all of them. Well at least most of them were. Only Heechul was ordering Hankyung to get food for him. Eunhyuk could not feel sorry for his hyung. That’s what he deserved for making me fret the whole day.
Eunhyuk found himself opposite Donghae, a perfect position to observe the boy. He was subconsciously scooping the food into his mouth as he watched the tiny actions Donghae made as he was eating.
The way Donghae’s eyes shined as he ate the delicious food, the way Donghae laughed at whatever someone else was saying to him, the way Donghae pouted when someone teased him, the way Donghae would flick his eyes over to him when Eunhyuk was caught staring. And the way Donghae’s eyes lit up and the most angelic smile would appear on Donghae’s face when he noticed Eunhyuk looking at him.
Eunhyuk blushed, ducking his head, pretending to be absorbed in eating. He did not notice the way Donghae corked his head to the side, wondering if he had done something wrong to make the other not want to look at him, or the way the light disappeared from Donghae’s eyes when he noticed that Eunhyuk was not responding to him.
Eunhyuk looked up again when he deemed it was safe, only to resume staring at Donghae. Eunhyuk wondered if Donghae would reserve a smile especially for him. He blushed at that thought, making the rest stare at him.
“Hyukkie, are you alright?” The ever present worried Umma, Leeteuk, asked.
“It’s all Hankyung-hyung’s fault!”
With the last bewildering statement, Eunhyuk ran from the room, only to shut himself in his room, causing Leeteuk to frown at the fore-mentioned person.
“What did I do?” Hankyung was lost. He could not remember a time when he had upset the younger boy.
“You must have done something. Go apologise now.” Leeteuk ordered. When Leeteuk was in that mood, not even Heechul dared to object to anyone ordering his Hannie around.
Hankyung got up, still puzzled, wondering if Eunhyuk was upset at him for not playing with him this morning. That must be it. Nodding to himself, satisfied that he now knew the reason behind the tiny tantrum Eunhyuk threw, Hankyung knocked on the door.
“Hyukkie ah, I’m sorry for not playing with you this morning. Don’t be upset. I’ll play with you now.”
Hearing no answer, Hankyung repeated, this time louder.
“Hyukkie ah…” But before he could complete his sentence, the door opened. The younger boy poked his head out, looking to see if there was anyone on the corridor, before grabbing hold of Hankyung, pulling him into the room.
“What…” Hankyung was startled as he was pulled in, almost stumbling over the box on the floor. He was pushed onto the bed, while the younger boy started pacing around the room.
“What’s wrong Eunhyuk?” Hankyung was now officially confused. Did I mess up my Hangul again? Did I say something wrong?
“It’s your fault Hyung.” Hankyung was about to ask what exactly was his fault when Eunhyuk continued.
“Why did you have to say that?”
“Say what?”
“I thought you like each other!” Eunhyuk repeated the words, unable to stop his face from turning red.
“I like who?”
“You don’t remember? You said that you thought me and Donghae like each other.”
Hankyung cocked his head to the side. “I said that?”
“Yes! You said it as you were leaving!”
“Oh…” Hankyung only vaguely remembered the incident for he was rushing to get back to his princess such that his princess would not kill him.
“So? What about it?”
Eunhyuk turned to Hankyung, stopping in his pacing.
“What about it? What about it?”
”Do you like him?”
That question made Eunhyuk’s jaw drop.
“What?”
“Do you like him?”
Hankyung stared at Eunhyuk waiting for an answer.
Eunhyuk looked down, thoughts of Donghae flashing past his mind. He could see Donghae smiling, hear Donghae talking, and feel Donghae’s presence next to him, as if the boy was right there physically next to him right now.
Eunhyuk nodded, causing Hankyung to smile at the younger boy. Then suddenly, Eunhyuk looked at Hankyung with a panicked look on his face.
“Hyung! What should I do now?”
“Confess?”
“Hyung~! You say it as if it’s the easiest thing in the world to do! What if he doesn’t like me?”
Hankyung laughed, only realising now how dense his dongsaeng actually was.
“You’ll never know until you try Hyuk.”
Hankyung stood up, hugging Eunhyuk, giving him some courage.
“I’ll leave you to think about the way to confess.”
Hankyung walked out, leaving Eunhyuk sputtering after him.
“Besides, there’s no way Donghae’s going to reject him.” Hankyung muttered under his breath, making sure that his dongsaeng could not hear him.
Eunhyuk was left staring at the door, wondering why none of his hyungs was ever helpful to him.
“Hankyung! Is Eunhyuk fine now?”
Hankyung was bombarded by Leeteuk the second he stepped into the kitchen.
“He’s fine. Nothing’s wrong. Just a little misunderstanding.”
Hankyung’s words calmed Leeteuk down, until Hankyung’s next words to Heechul.
“You know Chullie, you were right about them.”
Heechul smirked. “When am I ever wrong?”
Hankyung could only shake his head exasperatedly at the self-proclaimed Cinderella beside him as Leeteuk panicked in front of them.
“Right about who? You’re not planning something, are you?”
The two kept their silence much to the frustration of their leader.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Happy Birthday!”
Eunhyuk ducked as the streamers flew above him, falling and draping all over him. It was finally night time, and all members were back in the dorm in celebration of Eunhyuk’s birthday. Eunhyuk smiled widely at his hyungs and dongsaengs, truly glad to be spending it with all of them, on a night when all their schedules were empty.
“Now, open your presents!” Heechul exclaimed from his seat on the sofa.
“No, cake!” Shindong interceded.
“Present!”
“Cake!”
“Present!”
“Cake!”
“I’m older you should listen to me!”
“Stop it both of you! Honestly, you’re both older than the birthday boy over here, and yet you’re acting like kids.” Leeteuk shook his head at members who would never grow up, though he would never admit aloud that he liked them just the way they were.
“Hyukkie, what do you want to do first? Cake or present?”
Eunhyuk looked like a deer caught in the lights. Cake or present? He did not want to offend any of his hyungs, even if it was his birthday.
“Erm….”
“Why not do both at the same time? Cut the cake and eat it while opening the presents.”
Thank goodness for genius magnaes!
“Yup, why not do as Kyu suggested?” Eunhyuk answered.
It seemed to please everyone so that was what they agreed to do.
They all piled into the living room while the pile of presents was waiting to be opened. Eunhyuk sat down, grabbing the one closest to him, admiring the wrapping paper first before ripping it open. Everyone crowded round wanting to see his reactions to the presents he received - IPod, a shirt he had wanted, socks, stuffed toys, dance choreography book, shoes…and the list went on. All the time while he was opening the present, Donghae was next to him, feeding him the cake. Eunhyuk had blushed at the start, but concluded that since it was his birthday, he had the right to feel as if he was at the top of the world, especially with Donghae feeding him.
The pile of presents finally dwindled until there was none left. By then, some of the members were already drunk from the high amount of soju that someone had managed to sneak into the room. Eunhyuk laughed at the states of the members, swearing that it was the best birthday he ever had. Now if only my wish could come true.
Eunhyuk was pulled out of his thoughts by a tug in his arm.
“Hae?”
Donghae smiled at Eunhyuk, pulling him to his feet towards the door.
“Hae, where are we going?”
Donghae made him put on his shoes, and continued pulling him out the dorm.
“My present. I haven’t given it to you yet.”
“Present?”
“Don’t you want it?” Donghae gave his famous Donghae pout, causing Eunhyuk to flush red and nod vigorously.
Donghae smiled brightly and gestured to Eunhyuk to follow him up the stairs.
The two so engrossed in the own world did not notice the giggling from the sofa where two of their hyungs were watching their every move.
“Shh…you’ll wake everyone Chul.”
“But Hannie…”
No more words came from Heechul’s mouth as Hankyung silenced him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hae, where are we going?”
“Shh. You’ll see.”
The two had arrived at the door leading to the rooftop.
“Hyuk, close your eyes.”
Eunhyuk looked at Donghae warily, before doing as instructed. He felt himself being pulled along gently by Donghae through the door and around the corner. He was pushed into position before being told to open his eyes.
Eunhyuk felt his mouth drop wide open at the sight in front of him.
There was a huge heart, outlined by numerous candles and red rose petals were scattered, covering the inner area of the heart. And right in the centre there were two stuffed toys - a monkey and a fish. He turned towards Donghae, who had been bouncing from foot to foot, anticipating his reaction.
Donghae looked at Eunhyuk, before stepping over the candles, disrupting the peaceful scatter of petals. He picked up the pair in the centre, walking out towards Eunhyuk. Placing the stuffed toys in Eunhyuk’s arms, Donghae looked at Eunhyuk straight in the eyes.
“I love you.” Then a blush came into Donghae’s face.
“Can I be yours?”
Eunhyuk was flabbergasted. He was shocked. His soul had just flown out of his body. What?
Donghae’s hands were dropping down when Eunhyuk reacted - by pouncing onto Donghae.
Donghae was not ready for the impact and the two fell to the ground, over the candles and into the centre of the heart.
“I love you. You’re mine. Now and always.”
Donghae laughed, wrapping his arms tightly around Eunhyuk.
The two released each other from the hug, lying flat on the ground facing the sky, dotted with stars.
“Are you happy Hyuk?”
Donghae asked, snuggling closer to Eunhyuk.
“It’s the happiest day of my life.” Eunhyuk smiled. “But…”
The additional word caused Donghae to look sharply at Eunhyuk, only to catch a pout forming on his face.
“It was supposed to be my confession. I was going to confess tomorrow! Now all my efforts wasted.” Eunhyuk whined to Donghae, pouting hard.
Donghae’s reaction was to burst out in laughter at how cute his friend - no, lover - was.
“Hae…”
Eunhyuk’s whine was cut off, just like how Heechul’s words were silenced by Hankyung.
A soft kiss from their lover.
