Summary: What happens when they reached home....
Arc I Arc II Kyuhyun had wandered off alone to his room, his hyungs letting him do it albeit reluctantly. But they all understood the need to be alone. Instead they congregated - for the umpteenth time since the accident - in the living room. The rest were anxious for the outcome, although some had guessed correctly based on Kyuhyun’s reaction. But they still wanted to hear a confirmation.
“He’s not compatible.”
A huge mental sigh went across the room. None of them wanted their magnae to take the risk, no matter how much they wanted to support him in his decision. As silence fell upon the room, it became clear to some that there was more to the story; that something else had happened. Heechul glanced suspiciously at the four in front of him, making them fidget under his glance. He wondered briefly who would be the first to crack. To his surprise, it was Yesung who cracked.
“I fucking hate that guy!”
Yesung’s hands slammed onto the table, shocking everyone into silence with his words and actions. To see the normally passive member curse, and more surprising, to hear no rebuke from their Umma, it showed exactly what his thoughts on that guy were. Heechul’s eyes narrowed.
“What has he done now?” Heechul whispered with a tight edge to his voice.
Donghae and Eunhyuk unconsciously shifted away from Heechul, shudders running down their backs. They were amazed when Yesung confronted Heechul straight in the eyes.
“That idiot had the utter stupidity to say straight into Kyu’s face that he made the right choice in leaving Kyu behind those years ago. Right choice, he says. That’s what he says.”
Kangin growled under his breath.
“And that bastard said that he knew he should not have wasted his time on Kyu.”
They fell into a stunned silence once again as the sentence came from their meek little magnae.
“What does he mean by wasting his time? I should have given him a punch there and then. To hell with the consequences!”
No one rebutted Hankyung’s words. Instead, his words raised the long strings of words to erupt from everyone else.
“Why that idiot!”
“Who does he think he is?”
“A bastard. That’s what he is.”
“I should have punched him, kicked him, and sent him flying back to wherever he was when I saw him.”
“We should do that now.”
“I’m going to make sure that he suffers in the deepest level of hell and more than a hundred times of what Kyuhyun had gone through. Let’s see how he deals with it.”
Eeteuk had placed a hand on Hankyung’s arm when Hankyung made his outburst to calm him down. He cleared his throat at the group, an action he did only when he had serious news to make. Instantly, everyone halted in their actions.
“Would you all calm down? And keep quiet. I don’t want Kyu to hear all these!”
Heechul cut in bitingly.
In a blink of an eye, everyone had whipped their heads towards the corridor. Only when they were sure that they did not detect any motion in the darkness, they all sunk down onto the sofa or the floor.
“Alright, now that we can all think rationally. I want to know the progress. I for one want that bastard to suffer for what he did.”
This time, the words came not as shock to everyone, because they all knew that exactly how protective their leader was over every single one of them, especially their magnae after the accident. And they all understood if anyone hurt Eeteuk’s family, there would be hell to pay.
Heads slowly turned towards Siwon, the one who was getting the things done.
“Basically almost everything is laid out. My father has stepped in to help us for he says no one should ever hurt a child like that.”
Nods came from around the room, glad that they were progressing somewhere.
“As per the plan, we’ll bring down the mother” Siwon sneered at the word “first, and then the father.”
“Can we do it to the father first?” Yesung cut in, remembering the words uttered by the man just before they left.
“Why?” Donghae asked, wondering what had triggered the need for the sudden change of plans.
Hankyung and Eeteuk nodded their agreement to Yesung’s words, causing more people to look confused.
“Because he said “You’re going to regret this decision” to Kyuhyun when we left.”
Ryeowook’s head snapped up.
“What? How come I didn’t hear that?”
“You were concentrating on Kyu, and I was sure he didn’t want everyone in the corridor to hear his words.”
Silence fell upon them, the words running through their heads and the implications of them.
“What would he do?”
Donghae whispered, clenching onto Eunhyuk next to him. He could not bear to think that anything more might happen to his dongsaeng, who had already gone through so much.
Silence was his answer. No one wanted to admit that there was so much that the man could do to hurt Kyuhyun.
“Well, is it possible to do it to the father first?”
Yesung questioned, a little impatiently again.
Siwon answered with a frown on his face.
“It is possible. But we can’t do it immediately as there are still some details that we need to work out. The earliest we could strike is at least two or three days’ time.”
Yesung tensed and nodded. He wanted to strike before the father could do anything, because he knew that whatever the father did, the consequences would be devastating. A gloom fell over the group; the ecstatic reaction when they learned that Kyuhyun was not compatible vanished with the recent discovering.
“Okay, we’ll try to hurry up with the father and strike him as soon as possible, hopefully in the next few days. Now, it’s time for bed if we want to achieve anything tomorrow.”
No one really listened to Eeteuk, only a few nods signalling that they had heard him. Eeteuk knew that he should really be getting them to bed, but he could not be bothered today. He was far too tired, and he was too worried to sleep as well. Slowly, several members began to move, each settling into their own spaces. Eeteuk paid no attention to them, only noticing that Heechul had settled down next to him when Heechul touched him.
“What do you think would happen?” Eeteuk whispered to Heechul, not wanting everyone to hear their conversation.
Heechul shrugged, his eyebrows furrowing together, showing that his mind was on the same thread as Eeteuk.
None of them wanted to voice it out, in case they jinxed it.
“Do you really think he’ll do that?” Eeteuk’s worried eyes stared at Heechul.
Heechul wished there was something he could say to comfort his hyung, but there was nothing.
“All it would take is just one word. One word to destroy everything that Kyu had tried so hard to build.”
Heechul tightened his hold on Eeteuk’s hand.
They both knew what Eeteuk did not say. It would not only destroy Kyuhyun. It could also put their careers in jeopardy. But they knew that they could deal with that. What they could not deal with was a hurt dongsaeng.

It still hurts. It still hurts even though I know that I don’t need him anymore.
I don’t need him. I don’t need them.
At all.
Kyuhyun buried his head in his pillow, muffling his silent sobs.
But it still hurts.
He wished that his hyungs were in his room with him. He knew he could easily walk out of his room and he would be with his hyungs. But he did not want to upset them even more.
“I fucking hate that bastard!”
Kyuhyun jumped, startled at the sudden exclamation. What? A wave of dizziness hit him as he sat up too quickly. When his dizziness cleared, all was quiet in the living room. Kyuhyun wondered if he had imagined the shout.
He hugged his pillow to his chest, wishing to forget everything that had happened that day. He squashed the pillow to his chest, his mind wandering to the memories of the past, when things were still relatively peaceful in his house.
“Umma, can we go visit Appa?”
His mother simply walked towards the car. Kyuhyun knew that it was his mother’s way of saying that they were going to visit his father. He was excited. He did not see his father often, and it was rare that his mother would bring him along anyway. But he suppressed his excitement, acting like the perfect little gentleman his mother always insisted that he should be.
But he could not stop the smile that appeared on his face.

Donghae knocked on the door, wondering if Kyuhyun was asleep when he received no answer. He shrugged, pushing the door open with Hankyung and Kibum entering behind him. They saw Kyuhyun sitting on the bed, knees to his chest and a pillow to his knees. His eyes were blankly staring ahead of him, a look Donghae remembered clearly - for he had seen it on his face just a year ago - the look that said he was reminiscing the better times behind him. Donghae approached slowly, knowing not to startle his dongsaeng, calling out slowly to Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun lifted his head slightly to the sound of his name. Vaguely he wondered why his Donghae-hyung was in his childhood memories. He stiffened slightly when arms wrapped themselves around his body.
“It’s me Kyu. Donghae.”
A soft comforting voice whispered into his ears, causing him to relax a little. The memory he was absorbed in where he was on a rare outing with his parents despite it being a political event was gradually replaced by memories of better and happier times with his hyungs.
Donghae felt Kyuhyun relax a little into his hug, glad that he had successfully pulled Kyuhyun out of his memories. He could not bear to see that look on his dongsaeng’s face. He ran his fingers through Kyuhyun’s hair, knowing that the movement soothed Kyuhyun.
Kibum spotted Kyuhyun on the bed when he first entered the room. He stared at Kyuhyun on the bed, about to move when Donghae made the first move. Kibum wished his schedule was not so packed. He wished that he could have been there with Kyuhyun yesterday and gives the bastard who dared to call himself a father a painful punch in the face and the gut. He saw the blank look disappear from Kyuhyun’s eyes. Kibum was glad to see that Kyuhyun did not seem to be terribly hurt by the father’s words, though he knew it would take time to heal.
Hankyung watched the interaction between Donghae and Kyuhyun. It struck him just exactly how young Kyuhyun was - how young all of them - when Donghae started rocking Kyuhyun gently on the bed, humming a song under his breath. Hankyung tugged Kibum along, joining the two on the bed. As the four of them huddled on the bed, with Kyuhyun drifting off to sleep under the canopy of his hyungs’ love and comfort, Hankyung prayed deeply.
I hope nothing more befalls us.

The next morning, Sungmin wandered into the living room, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He stared at the couple on the sofa, blinking a few times. Is that…? He suppressed the giggle that was going to escape but could not stop the smile from spreading across his face. It was a rare picture to see their two eldest sleeping so soundly together with each other. Eeteuk leaned his head on Heechul’s shoulder, while their hands were clenched together. The smile turned sad as Sungmin remembered the circumstances that drove the two to seek comfort in each other - and to let themselves be found in that position. Sungmin shook his head a little, deciding to let the two continue to sleep. They had worried enough for the past few months.
Eunhyuk stepped into the kitchen, a little surprised to see Sungmin instead of Hankyung. Running his hand through his hair, in an attempt to comb his hair, he asked, “Where’s Hannie-hyung?”
“Don’t know. But I felt like making breakfast today. So…”
Eunhyuk nodded, placing his head on the table, yawning.
No more words were exchanged as they tried not to think about the night before. Others slowly wandered into the kitchen as well, chasing the sleep away from their eyes with cups of coffee. No one asked where Hankyung was or where their two eldest were.
When Eeteuk and Heechul entered the kitchen, no one spoke of the scene of vulnerability that they were caught in, all glad that the two found someone to confide in. Heechul and Eeteuk kept what they talked the night before to themselves, knowing that there was no need to worry everyone even more, although some of them suspected there was something they were hiding from them. All those thoughts were thrown out of their minds when Kyuhyun walked in with Hankyung, Kibum and Donghae. They wondered what they should say to him, when Kyuhyun smiled and greeted them. Unknowingly, they all heaved a sigh of relief.
They settled around the table, having the breakfast that was made by Sungmin. Eeteuk began piling food on Kyuhyun’s plate, then Ryeowook’s plate, and then Kibum’s plate, telling them to eat more as they were all too thin. Watching Eeteuk fuss over their magnaes, they smiled,
Some things never changed.
The day passed rather peacefully, with them filming the music video for Don’t Don. Kyuhyun spent most of the time in the van, waiting for his turn. His hyungs had refused to let him stay alone in the dorm for they remembered distinctly what happened when they did the last time. They would rather have him where they knew they could find him. He slept a little in the van, knowing that it was not moving. It was not peaceful, with the memories of the accident haunting his mind as he slept. He jerked awake; his back covered slightly with sweat. Kyuhyun pushed open the van door, not wanting to stay in the van any longer.
No one bothered with him as he walked onto the set, all too caught up in the recording. He spotted someone, trying to hide in the corner, wondering who it was. As he walked closer, he realised that it was the violin boy - Henry. He had always wanted to meet the talented boy who was a year younger than him, having heard exactly how well he danced and how exceptional he was with his violin from his hyungs.
“Hi.” Kyuhyun watched with slight amusement as Henry jerked in shock, his hands clenching tightly to his violin and bow. Wide round eyes on the absolutely chubby cheeks stared at Kyuhyun.
“Hi!” Henry squeaked back.
“I’m Kyuhyun. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” Kyuhyun stretched out his hand towards Henry.
Henry stared at Kyuhyun and at his hand and then back to Kyuhyun. Then he jumped and grabbed Kyuhyun’s hand, shaking it.
“I’m Henry.” He blushed as he said it.
Kyuhyun smiled, inwardly terribly amused by the boy in front of him.
Henry quickly let go of Kyuhyun’s hand, blushing hard and looking down at his violin. Kyuhyun decided to spare him the agony.
“So how do you find all these?”
“Oh, it’s all new and slightly frightening. But Hyungs are all really brilliant and wonderful. They taught me so much, especially Eunhyuk-hyung and Donghae-hyung. And of course, Han Geng… Hankyung-hyung.”
Kyuhyun let the boy ramble on as he watched the filming. How he longed to be standing there with his hyungs, dancing as a group, instead of standing outside, like an outsider. He knew he was being rude for not listening to Henry, but he was distracted.
Henry slowed down in his talking when he realised that the tall with blonde bleached hair standing next to him was no longer paying attention to him. He looked at the longing on the beautiful face, and followed the gaze. Oh. Henry had heard of the accident that had occurred to his hyungs when he was briefed slightly by the management. He knew that there was one who was injured terribly in the accident, and was not due to join the group soon. So he was surprised when he heard that the album was going to involve all thirteen members. Ever since he heard that news, he had always wanted to meet the last of his hyungs, the mysterious boy which he had never seen before in the SM building or anywhere else for the matter. But he had heard enough from the rest of the members to feel as if he had actually known Kyuhyun. And to finally have met him, Henry felt that there was nothing that was going to go wrong that day.
“They look perfect.”
A low whisper from his side pulled Henry from his thoughts. He looked at Kyuhyun, understanding that he was not supposed to have heard that. But he knew that he had to say something.
“They may seem perfect, but they don’t believe they’re perfect, not without you.”
Kyuhyun turned his head, startled that his words were heard.
Henry stared at the twelve people dancing in front.
“They truly care about you. I’ve heard so much about you from them that make me feel as if I’ve known you for a long time. But every time they spoke about you, I could always hear the longing and love they have for you. They are waiting for you to join them, to make them whole.” Henry stared at him at the last sentence.
Kyuhyun could feel his mouth open slightly. The words hit him hard. With them not coming from his hyungs, but from a stranger - at least to him, Kyuhyun found himself believing it.
A long silence fell between the both of them, no one really knowing what else to say.
“Kyu!” A loud shout from Sungmin and Donghae cut through the silent bubble.
Kyuhyun was pounced on by his hyungs, with Sungmin babbling about what happened on set before he was there. He stopped suddenly, staring at Kyuhyun, taking in his pale expression, despite the slight smile on his face.
“Are you alright?” Sungmin asked worriedly. That attracted everyone’s attention. In an instant, twelve pairs of eyes all stared at Kyuhyun.
Kyuhyun shook his head, knowing that the paleness came from his dream in the van just now. He had almost forgotten about it when he met Henry.
“I’m fine Hyung. It’s the make-up.”
Sungmin bit the bottom of the lips, but decided to not pursue it.
“Are you happy to be here?” Donghae almost exclaimed to Kyuhyun, hanging onto his arm.
And in the midst of the chaos, Kyuhyun whispered a soft “Thank you” to Henry. Henry shook his head at Kyuhyun, who smiled and went on to deny having said anything to Ryeowook who was hovering in front of him.
