Summary: How the members felt about the incident and the actual meeting with the parents.
Arc I Arc II Sungmin lie next to Donghae, almost touching his dongsaeng, but not.
“Min-hyung?” Donghae asked timidly.
Sungmin nodded, turning his head slightly to face Donghae. Donghae shook his head, indicating that it was nothing. He just wanted to make sure that he was not alone. Sungmin reached out a hand, holding Donghae’s in his and squeezing it tight.
“You’re not alone.”
Sungmin understood what Donghae was feeling. He wanted to forget all the helplessness he had felt in the past few months. It was enough to last him a lifetime. He was not used to constantly feeling useless at the situation that was happening to them. I think no one will ever get used to it.
Eunhyuk found a spot next to Donghae, holding on to Donghae’s hand as well. None of them wanted to be alone that night. Eunhyuk remembered how Kyuhyun had clung onto him at the hospital. He remembered how his magnae had refused to let him go. If Eunhyuk could hold on to Kyuhyun forever, he would. Eunhyuk felt Donghae squeezed his hand. No words were exchanged further between the three of them as they simply lie there, waiting for the illusive sleep to come.
Kangin found a spot at the corner of the living room, away from the rest, yet still close enough for him to know that he was not alone. He curled up in the blanket by himself. He didn’t react to Shindong lying down next to him.
“Youngwoon ah, you won’t be able to do everything right in your life.”
Shindong watched Kangin from the corner of his eyes.
“If everything goes right, it wouldn’t be called life.”
Kangin could feel a slight smile tugging at his lips. Shindong patted Kangin gently on the back and returned to his staring of the sky.
“Thank you.” Kangin’s voice drifted softly to Shindong’s ears as he too turned his attention to the sky, to the little stars that continued to twinkle in the sky no matter what happened.
“Hyung, will you stay with me tonight?” Siwon asked Heechul as they entered the living room.
Heechul’s reply was simple. He pulled Siwon to the blankets that Siwon and Kibum had occupied before they were all rudely woken up by Heechul’s scream. Tonight’s event was a shock for all of them. It was rare for Siwon to seek comfort from any of his hyungs. In some aspects, both Siwon and Kibum were like Kyuhyun - all three refusing to rely on their hyungs. But Kibum and Siwon were willing to seek comfort on their own, while Heechul finally understood that for Kyuhyun, it was not that he did not want to be comforted by his hyungs, it was that Kyuhyun had no idea how to go about asking for comfort. As Siwon leaned in on Heechul, Heechul stared at the ceiling.
Will sleep come to me tonight?
“Hyung, what happened in the bathroom?” Kibum asked Eeteuk as they lie down on the blankets.
Eeteuk was squashed between Ryeowook and Kibum, whose arms were still interlinked with Eeteuk’s. Yesung had found a spot next to Ryeowook, not wanting to go back to his little corner in the room for the rest of the night.
“Hannie found Kyuhyun washing some imaginary blood off his hands in the bathroom, and he tried to stop Kyuhyun. That’s the scene me and Kangin stumbled upon. No one expected Kyuhyun’s reaction.”
His dongsaengs’ reactions were to snuggle even tightly to him.
“Will Kyuhyun be alright Umma?” Kibum whispered as he stared at Ryeowook across Eeteuk, the same insecure look reflected in Ryeowook’s eyes.
His voice echoed through the living room, where the rest were wondering the same question as well. Will Kyuhyun be back?
But like how Eeteuk wondered how exactly he should answer the question, no one had any answer.
Although they were in the middle of preparing for their second album, none of them had the album in their minds at the moment. All their thoughts were surrounding their magnae. Yesung started humming a song from their first album, “Believe”, providing a lullaby for the rest. It was the only thing that slowly led them to sleep that night.

Everyone was a little down when they arrived at their performance ground. None of them felt up to it especially with Kyuhyun and Hankyung so upset at home. Eeteuk had explained what happened to their manager-hyung who understood their reaction. But there was nothing their managers could do with regards to their schedules. The show had to go on. Eeteuk understood as well. That was why the eleven of them were there instead of jus boycotting their performance, even though it was obvious that not one hundred percent of their attention was there.
Kibum had wanted to call back many times during their practice, but Sungmin stopped him. Sungmin knew that once they called back, none of them would focus on the performance. Kibum understood, but he continued to sulk, ignoring the rest.
It was during their lunch break when Heechul’s phone rang.
“Chullie-hyung, it’s me Hankyung.”
“Kyungie, what’s wrong?”
“Hyung, I’m out with Kyuhyun now.”
“Oh, so you two made up already?” Heechul teased excitedly, though some part of him doubted that the two would have made up that easily despite what Kyuhyun had told Hankyung the previous night.
“Hyung.” Hankyung said exasperatedly through the phone.
Heechul laughed, glad that Hankyung was back to normal - or as normal as he could under the circumstances. “Okay, I’m serious. So you’re with Kyuhyun outside?”
“Well, I’m with Kyuhyun at the same place now. Though technically we’re not really at the same place.”
Hankyung was rambling because he had no idea how to breach the topic to Heechul.
“What do you mean you’re at the same place and yet technically you’re not at the same place?”
Heechul was confused. Though he normally understood Hankyung rather well, he had no idea what exactly was coming out of his dongsaeng’s mouth right now. Eeteuk was looking Heechul, pointing to his watch. Heechul covered the mouthpiece and whispered to Eeteuk.
“It’s Hankyung.”
“Argh, I don’t know how to say this. We’re at the same area, but Kyu is not with me right now because he’s in a restaurant with his parents.”
Hankyung threw caution into the wind and decided to just tell Heechul what was going on, even though Hankyung was not quite sure what Kyuhyun was doing with his parents inside the restaurant.
“What?” Heechul’s exclamation stopped Eeteuk’s pulling of his arms.
“I said Kyu is inside the restaurant with his parents and I can’t enter because the whole restaurant is booked by his father.”
Okay. What shall I do now? Heechul had no idea what to do.
“Chullie?”
Heechul forgot that Eeteuk was next to him. “Kyuhyun is with his parents right now.”
“What?” Eeteuk’s reaction was exactly the same.
Eeteuk made some action that told Heechul to pass him the phone.
“Hannie?” Eeteuk-hyung?
“Just stay there with Kyuhyun and we’ll be there as soon as possible. Message us the location. And Hannie, take care of him.” Eeteuk spoke quickly knowing that they were due on-stage in a couple of minutes.
Hankyung nodded on the other end before realising that his hyung could not see him.
“Yes, Hyung.”
Eeteuk hung up.
“What do we do?” Heechul asked Eeteuk as Eeteuk returned the phone to him.
“Get through the performance first.”
Heechul knew that both of them did not want to do that but they had their obligations. Heechul nodded, plastering a smile on his face so that he would not worry the rest. Eeteuk did the same as well.

Hankyung stared at his phone, wondering how he could honour the trust Eeteuk had placed in him. He couldn’t enter the restaurant. He had no idea what Kyuhyun was doing with his parents inside. Hankyung settled for staring at the door to the restaurant.

Kyuhyun took a deep breath before he headed to the only table that was occupied in the whole restaurant.
“Good afternoon, Father, Mother.” Kyuhyun greeted, bowing at his parents before taking a seat.
As usual Kyuhyun did not expect any reactions from his parents. His mother did not disappoint him, but his father gave both of them a shock when he acknowledged Kyuhyun.
“Ah, Kyuhyun-sshi, we have not met in a long time.”
Kyuhyun raised a surprised look at his father before quickly lowering his eyes to his laps.
“Yes, sir.”
“So, how have you been?”
Kyuhyun merely nodded. He didn’t know how to interact with his father whom he had not seen since he was seven. His mother was not helping in the situation by pretending that the two of them did not exist in front of her, choosing instead to concentrate on the food. Maybe his father noticed the awkwardness that surrounded the whole table or perhaps he simply had nothing else to ask, the family focused their attention on eating instead.
Kyuhyun knew that it was an expensive restaurant and that the food was supposed to be one of the best in the world, but he had only managed a few mouthfuls before playing with his food. It might be due to his nervousness at the whole situation, because it was the first time in a long, long time since he had sat down with either of his parents for lunch or dinner. It was like a childhood dream fulfilled. Yet Kyuhyun did not feel the happiness that he thought he would at finally being able to have lunch with his parents. There was something that was crucially missing. They were not having lunch together because they were all willing; instead there was some hidden agenda that had yet to reveal itself.
Kyuhyun found himself missing the boisterous presence of his hyungs, missing the crowded mess in the living room whenever they gathered together, missing the smell of the Beijing Fried Rice that his Hannie-hyung made so well. Kyuhyun missed the feeling that made him feel like a real family with his hyungs. It dawned on him that it might be something he would never experience with his parents in his entire life.
“Let’s get down to it. What did you call me here for?”
Kyuhyun’s mother wiped her mouth with the napkin, acting like the demure lady even if her tone indicated otherwise.
“Must you be so anxious?”
His mother shot his father a look.
“You still haven’t changed a single bit, have you?” His father laughed a little, though Kyuhyun had no thoughts of laughing with him.
Kyuhyun felt that there was going to be a volcano eruption soon.
“Fine, I’ll get down to the topic.” His father sobered up. “I need your help.”
