An open letter to Ryan Murphy:

Dear Ryan Murphy and Co.:

I fully supported the Madonna episode OF Glee. I do not however support the Lady Gaga episode. And I can't fully support the possibility of a Britney Spears episode next season when there are far better, more influential artists who deserve their own episode.

For instance, I vote for a complete hour of the Beatles. They are still counted as the most important and most influential band to have ever been created. They were bigger than Jesus. And if it weren't for them, music as we know it would be radically different. We all know creating a musical from their music is possible (Exhibit A: Across the Universe. Exhibit B: Cirque du Soleil has an entire performance choreographed using their music).

On that note, might I also suggest Elvis? He's the King, right? Or have we forgotten about him simply because of his drug abuse? He has a very large selection to choose from.

And what about Bob Dylan? He was highly influential. Ask any freaking music reporter to make a list of the most influential men of music and he is guaranteed a spot on this list.

I would also like to add my favorite band Queen. They definitely have a large enough catalog and they were/are very popular. I propose using "The Show Must Go On" and "We are the Champions" (for when New Directions wins Regionals, obviously).

Other artists and bands that deserve a lot of love on the show are Bruce Springsteen (I mean, he's the Boss. Why hasn't he had a song on the show yet?), Johnny Cash and David Bowie. And what about Led Zeppelin? Or Pink Floyd? Or Jimi Hendrix? And if I ever thought anyone would go for it I'd include The Clash or the Ramones, but I know it won't happen.

What I'm saying is, stop pretending that wearing ridiculous clothing and going crazy and shaving your head makes someone important enough to have an entire episode of Glee with their music. I'm not saying I didn't use to listen to B.Spears back in the day (I'm a kid of the 90s, after all), but I don't think she's nearly as influential as the bands and artists I've mentioned above.

And sure, I get that not all these artists probably want to give you permission to use their songs, and sure, they don't all fit in with Glee's music style, but I know I am not wrong in stating they deserve the appreciation. Maybe you don't have to create entire episodes around them, but can you break out and use some of their music? Look, if Glee can make use of Burt Bacharach and Paul Anka, I think they can find a little room for the artists I mentioned above. And for crying out loud, where the hell is Michael Jackson?

Love always,
Kaitlin

PS: Don't get me wrong, I love the show more than anything in the world and I won't stop watching just because you don't use enough of the bands I love, but show some of the big guys some love. Please?
