Oh i would never have thought about this pairing/crossover but it fits! A wonderful fic. I love how you describe Colin's thoughts and feelings and how he is sad because of his lost chance with Mary but also sees he could have a happy end with Sara!

A great fic. :D

Thank you! I wouldn't have thought of Sara for Colin without the prompt either, I admit, but they do fit together very well - she'd help bring him out of himself and cheer him up, and he'd keep her grounded.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! They are a very well-suited pair, when you think about it.

Interesting. I suppose young, hot-headed Mary was good for dragging young Colin out of his room and back into the world again, but I can see here where Mary is with Dickon (who grounds her), Colin would need some magic in his life and calm Sara with her love of stories would work very well indeed.

I think I like this bit best of all: “I might not,” she said, her voice still smooth and deliberate. “But I should try not to show it, and you will find me willing to believe a great many things.”. It sounds perfect, for both sources, and shows how perfect Sara could be for Colin - willing to be proper, to fit in with what Colin sees to be his station (it's telling that he still thinks of Dickon as a plain Yorkshire lad off the moor even though he's ashamed to), but she won't just disbelieve things because that's the norm either.

Lovely story :)

Thank you! Your favorite bit is one of mine as well - I was trying to get across both Sara's charm and her sense of gravity, so I'm glad it came off right.

I do think Colin is the sort of person who wouldn't do as well on his own - he needs a companion or two to share his ideas with and keep him from getting too wrapped up in his own headspace. And Sara would be perfect for that because they could spend entire evenings just talking and telling stories.
