When I first saw womenlovefest, with its tagline 'We love the women fandom hates,' I didn't think any Firefly characters would come up; Firefly fandom in general seems very accepting and loving of all nine main characters

My first thought when seeing the phrase 'We love the women fandom hates,' was, sadly enough: So, pretty much every female character ever, then. I've seen things I don't even want to remember when it comes to bashing female characters. But I too would count Firefly as being mostly free of that, though you're right about Inara being depicted negatively in some fics.
These made me smile! You really show the versatility hinted at in the title and I liked how you have her interacting with the rest of the crew, especially with Wash, flying the ship, and helping Kaylee fix Serenity (though I love River's “You might not. I might have disappeared... too). IV was poignant, with this: So she sang, her voice thin, but true and pure, carrying for the dead and for those still living. And the final one was great!

Yeah, more or less. I remember the day I saw hate for Dana Scully, of all people - how on earth could anyone hate Scully? But it seems all you need in fandom to be hated most of the time is to be a woman. Boggles the mind.

Thank you! That was pretty much the objective, so I'm glad it came through. :)
I remember the day I saw hate for Dana Scully, of all people - how on earth could anyone hate Scully? Scully too? How, indeed, I'm glad I've missed that. But I'm strange in the way that I'm always more focused on the female characters (and I say strange since it's been my experience in fandoms that not that many are).
Yeah apparently Scully is silly for believing in God but not aliens, and she's so mean to Mulder besides. Fortunately, most X-Philes are much smarter than that.
You're not strange at all from my point of view, but then, I tend to focus on females more myself, or at least pairs where at least one partner is female, which is indeed unusual in fandom. Of course, then you run into the debate of whether people are biased against liking female characters, or if there are simply fewer female characters out there to like in the first place.
Thank you! That makes perfect sense, yes; Inara can be a hard character to grasp because there are so many different aspects to her, and I think a lot of people only use one or two of them.

Many people just don't get Inara but you definitely got her well here! (if that makes any sense at all)
Anyway, thanks for the fine read.
