Well, I'll ask you the same thing as I asked Ailsa!

What kinds of videos can be played? And can you convert videos to a file that will play on the ipod or do you need a seperate program?

The videos have to be .mp4 files. (And maybe .mov files will work too, but I won't swear on that.)

You can convert .avi files and such to .mp4 using a seperate program. I'm a PC user and use this one. If you're a Mac person, I know converters exist for that as well, I just don't know them by name.

If you have any other questions just let me know. :)

have you had any problems with it? and how long have you had it versus usage-per-day?

I used to own a 4th generation 40 gig, and it died, was replaced, ran out of warranty and the replacement died about a month later. Needless to say, I was not pleased by this. Apple wouldn't touch it and HP was useless. Ergo, I'm a bit shy about buying a new one, but I miss the iPod-y goodness. I used the original almost non-stop, and it lasted longer than the one I used for about 3 hours per day.

Sorry to dump the sob story on you, I'm just curioud as to whether or not this is something I ought to worry about much should I buy a new one?

I actually have two working iPods. My 4th generation 20GB one that now stays plugged into my iPod speakers in the house at all times. I've had that one over a year.

And my new 5th generation 60GB video one that I take everywhere with me. If I leave the house, the new one goes with me. I listen to it through my car's stereo, haul to classes with me, carry it in my purse. Where I am, it is, that kind of thing. I've had it a few months.

So, yeah, I've never had any *major* problems with either one. Just the run of the mill problems. The worst thing that's happened with the new one is a couple times it has refused to turn off. You have to plug it in to get control over turning it off again. So, not a big problem, just annoying if you're out of the house, lol.

As far as I can tell, problems with iPods are really hit and miss. Some people can't keep them working to save their souls and others never have any trouble whatsoever. So I'm not sure how helpful this really is, but what it's worth, I haven't had any real trouble with them. :)

thanks for the info.

I was so disappointed when the replacement died two months after I got it and a month past warranty. It seemed unreasonable and almost suspicious. Suspicious enough that I didn't want another, although I love me some iPod. Tough, eh?

I'm glad yours is still rolling. I hope it continues to do so.
