Let's be honest. This community needs posts! Hehehehehehe! So before I pose this question elsewhere, I'd put it here and hope to get comments from the members.
On one of my e-mail lists, somebody asked what the perfect blind community might be. Apparently, the author is talking about some kind of apartment complex where only blind people reside. The impression I get is that it would be built to certain specifications so that the blind were accomodated. So the first part of this question would be what your idea of such a place would be.
I don't know much about architecture, but I suppose there'd be a lot of Braille everywhere or at least some kind of tactile signage. Talking signs might be optional for those who had trouble with their sense of touch. I would suppose appliances and the machines in the laundry facilities would be labeled or have some kind of tactile controls. I would suppose there'd be ample space for people to relieve their guide dogs as well. Just ideas for starters.
Now, here's the second bit which is my own thing. Would you feel pretty much comfortable and accepted around blind people exclusively? In my own case, it really depends on the individuals. I would hope there were tenants who were in my general age group and who might have enough in common with me to make things interesting. It all depends on the group and the individuals I guess. Sometimes I can feel like a fish out of water around some blind people because they might be, for example, a bit on the conservative or religious side. Hard for me to really relate to any of that. I hope it doesn't make me look like a snob, but I guess I'm not gifted enough to be a people guy. I'm pretty much intraverted after all. Hehehehehehe! So what do ya think?
