New Ubuntu and continuing XP Disk Burning Problems

Jan 07, 2008 15:45

On Tuesday I will pick up my computer with Ubuntu installed on it and start using Linux for my internet as much as possible. Then I can take my music computer off-line. I am very excited about trying out the Linux system and I hope that i will not have to be so vigilant against internet pests. I do notice that viruses seem to be less popular now that almost everyone has anti-virus software. the real problem now seems to be the more insidious browser hi-jacks, Trojan horses and worm viruses. I seem to have picked up something in this system that is disabling the burning capacity on my CD and DVD burners, although they both play well.

I haven't been able to fix the problem -- I keep getting a power calibration error. I tried changing the IMAP settings, but so far nothing works and both drives have the same error. I have a very good Sonata case with power supply, so I don't get it.

Help?
