i am twiddling with the idea that instead of fighting for this object of gay marriage equality, we should instead, take away the rights of straight people, and all people to gain economic benefits, and governmental benefits from completely an act known as marriage, or an act known as a civil union.
perhaps, instead of asking for all people to be equal, and give others benefits, we should merely make the act of 'marriage' something of the church, or of a private ceremony, or of a family, or a community, and not give with it's recognition strong economic benefits like tax cuts, adoption, joint parenting, next-of-kin hospital decisions.... sigh. But then, it seems not possible, to recognize someone as family, if they are not family, and there is no legal documentation. Why is our society so stringently set up to only accommodate relationships with people of the same sex?
i give up for now.
