Ruminations and Rumours

Mar 16, 2007 23:48

I just re-downloaded Fleetwood Mac's classic hit record, "Rumours", the cover of which features, if I remember correctly, Stevie Nicks looking typically Wiccan and Lindsey Buckingham in some kind of terrifying man-tights and a billowing nightmare of a poet's shirt. That leads me to think about some of the more embarrassing music that I love ( Read more... )

Lors, I'll send you some Gay Trifecta music if you like, but I'm not sure you'll enjoy it...I think it's an acquired taste, kind of like haggis. If you weren't fed haggis early, you probably will never stuff your face with haggis. And new listeners tend to want to blow up my stereo when I bust out with Jimmy Somerville's falsetto (and delightful!) cover of "Don't Leave Me This Way". But you have varied tastes so maybe you will like it.

I was never into metal, but roommate Wayne and wife Lisa's love of Faith No More seems completely justified to me. Wayne is really into all kinds of "boy music" like that. Lots of metal gets blasted when we're not around. I can get down with some of it and especially stuff that's more moving into industrial music, because I used to love (ok, still love) early Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, and Front 242.

And word to George Michael. The Praying for Time album is awesome and I even like "Fast Love" and the accompanying hilarious video. Btw, have you seen the scuzzy trick he hooked up with in the bushes recently? He got caught again, predictably, and the press hunted down the other perp, and UGH, let me tell you, it must be true that everyone looks the same in the dark, because this guy is a troll.

See for yourself. Ugh!

What are you listening to these days?

What am I listening to.....mostly this band from Denmark, Mew. They are my absolute favorite. It's like very good indie rock, very dreamy and a little proggy too - with the most amazing vocal melodies ever, and very dark lyrics. I pretty much listen to them all the time. They have only 2 albums available in the US. I'm actually seeing them @ Irving Plaza next week.

Otherwise, my usual mishmash of 80's-ish post-punk and college rock: Mission of Burma, The Feelies, The Fall, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr., Fugazi, etc. Have been really into The Misfits/Samhain. Also, a lot of classical music, but I listen to that mostly on the radio so I have no control over what is hearing. Usually I just set my itunes so it just plays my entire collection of Mew on random over and over and over again. I'm pretty obsessed. I'm sure after I see them live it will be so much worse.
