El amor es el torbellino

A lot's been going on in the two months since my last entry concluding the school writings. A couple of my best friends, Justin and Christina, were down here in Florida from New York for personal and business reasons, and they stayed with me for a full, action-packed week in mid-November. I did a lot more running around and socializing than I'm used to, and even got to introduce them to my best friend in the area, Roberto. On December 8th I went with a coworker to the mind-blowing The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, and the following weekend I saw The Hobbit, which I loved, and caught comedian Brian Posehn at the Palm Beach Improv, who was over-the-top gross and hilarious.

That weekend, a girl messaged me out of the blue on OKCupid saying she was very intrigued and wanted to meet up. So we did, and it went pretty well. We made out briefly in my room to music before I took her home late that night. After a miscommunication where I didn't hear from her for awhile and thought she'd lost interest, we had a second date, in which, shockingly for me, she decided to stay at my apartment with me. We cuddled and kissed a bit but she was tired and I wasn't really ready for more anyway, so she just slept with me, an arm and a leg flung over me, snoring loudly. That, so far, seems to be her only major flaw. She is gorgeous, the same age as me (a few months older actually), and seems to really like me. We appear to be a good match in a lot of ways. Her name is Lindsey, or Lindsey Quinn (the latter being one of her middle names, but she uses either or both). She lives in northeast Boca, near the border of Delray Beach, about 25 miles from me. Unfortunately she has no car at the moment so I must drive. I don't mind though, if things go well.

We just had our third (sorta) date, where we met during the daytime in her area, had lunch, and went to the local art museum to see a video game exhibit. I've been sick for the past week, and partially because of that, I've made another go at quitting smoking (my last time was a four month stretch in mid-2009). I have been a smoker since February 2003, though I cut down significantly in 2009. My last cigarette was shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve. As a result of all this, I was a bit out of sorts when I saw Lindsey. She was getting over a cold too, though. It didn't go quite as great as the other two times, but we still had fun. I should be seeing her next weekend, on my 29th birthday (January 12th), when, among other things, we will be seeing a Pink Floyd laser light show at a planetarium not far from me.

I hope this goes well and turns into something, but I really wasn't ready for this. It came completely out of nowhere, after love and relationships had been off my radar (mostly) for a year or two. Until now, since graduation a year ago, what I should have been focusing on but haven't is finding a new job. I have been at Barnes and Noble a full five years now (plus a few months at another location in 2007, and a year at Border's before that) and it's time to move on. The benefits are okay but the pay sucks and the job frequently drains me of my energy and my love for humanity. It is nothing I can see doing long-term, and until I am free of it, I am also essentially still dependent on my parents. So, this new whirlwind of romance could either prove a distraction, or a motivator to move forward in other areas. Time will tell which it may be. For now I just want to be rid of this cold, and I hope this upcoming birthday will be something special, unlike my last few.
