Dream 08

Warnings: Headcanon. Spoilers for the Drama CD "Sound Around". Romanji lyrics for First Good-Bye over here. And I might have screw up the music terms. Sorry. ^^a;

Effects: [Optional] Kyon will first feel apathetic, not really feeling the song the SOS Brigade is playing for their audition. That changes near the end of the song. He really starts getting into it. Almost passionate, even.

Ah and the viewer can hear most of Kyon's thoughts. Have at it /o/

The dream opens to what looks like an auditorium. It was moderately-sized, perfect for just hosting events and concerts within the city. The stage looked ready for a performance. Mics strategically placed to make the sound travel better, the drums set sitting in the middle, ready to played. The scene then shifts to the audience. There were three figures, the judges of this band audition, sitting in the center row, just a few feet from the stage. They weren't alone, the house was packed with other people. Musicians, to be exact. Some were holding their prized instruments close to their person while others have stored it underneath their seats. The noise being made by the audience was silenced when one of the judges called out,

"Okay, Band number 42! You're up!"

The scene shifts to five teenagers, two boys and three girls (two of them familiar to anyone they have talked to in the dreamworld), making their way to the stage. The murmurs resurfaced when the spectators in the auditorium noticed this particular band's... outfits.

Kyon could help but scoffed while tuning his bass. 'We couldn't have done this in our uniforms.' he thought while wiping the sweat from his brow. 'We just had to stand out, didn't we?'

His glanced shifts to Haruhi who was tuning her guitar while making idle chit chat with Yuki and Mikuru (who was, Kyon had to admit to himself, were both looking really cute and sexy in her band costumes).

Unfortunately, his staring was cut short by one SOS Brigade Chief. He looked up from tuning, only to have Haruhi suddenly fixing the collar of his shirt. 'She's awfully close...'

"Are you listening to me?!" she said, practically bristling while surveying her work. "I said, remember your--"

"Cues," the boy cut in smoothly, looking at her directly in the eye. "I know. You'll give me a signal. We've been through this a hundred times, Haruhi."

"Hmmph. Good, you've been paying attention." Satisfied, Haruhi left Kyon alone to fiddle with the collar before taking her place at the mike in the middle.

The judge spoke again, making the auditorium silent once more. "All right. Band name?"

"The SOS Brigade!" Haruhi said, puffing her chest out in pride.

"Huh, so you're all high school students?"

"Yup! Everyone of us~"

"Okay then. Whenever you're ready."

"Yes sir!" Haruhi turned to Itsuki who was stationed at the drums to give his cue. "Koizumi-kun, count us off!"

"As you wish." He posed his drums stick, ready to count the beat.

1, 2, 1, 2, 3, GO!

It was Yuki's turn to shine. She started off with a guitar rift, playing it effortlessly, blending in with Itsuki's drums. Like playing the rhythm guitar was something second to her. Haruhi and Kyon joined in after with their lead guitar and bass respectively.

And then, Haruhi sang with Mikuru joining to add a stronger harmony of voices, their powerful vocals booming over the speakers...

If we could understand each other better
Right now, she'd be getting along with me

The way back home is always a paradise
Did we talk about everything while licking ice cream?

Put an end to all your stupid delusions!
Da-Da-Da Dan-Da-Don't forget
They'll fade away
So I'm glad I didn't tell you
"I love you so much!"

The skeptics in the crowd looked entranced, stomping their feet and clapping to the rhythm of the song. Even the judges sat up straighter to listen intently to the performance. Both Yuki and Itsuki have already reassured Kyon that the Sound Worm was gone.

Which means, this song was getting everyone's attention because of its own merit.

Pretending not to look at anything, I watched your back
It gets so rough, and I start to run
I miss you, baby
The love I've known only had the frustration of jealousy
I left that and ran away, but
It's already good-bye! Bye, first love!

One by one, the SOS Brigade members were getting affected by the song as well. Itsuki was starting to bang his head, even twirling his drumsticks in his fingers. Mikuru looked like she was actually enjoying herself performing in front of a large crowd for once, clapping her hands above her head to the beat. Haruhi was, of course, giving her all to her playing and her singing as per usual. She was even pumping her fist in the air, full of enthusiasm and energy. It seemed like the music hasn't gotten to Kyon yet if him still staying rooting in his spot was any indication.

It's just, I'm used to my feelings
And even the laugh track was the same

Why isn't it me?
I'm tired of repeating this
Life is such a money sink

I've got to accept the beginning and go next
Ba-Ba-Ba Ban-Ba-Ban restart
Hallelujah~!
It's dimmed out, but I won't get sad
I'm surprisingly cheerful!

If even my mind will change, so will tomorrow
Turning around, bringing peace,
I go, go my way
Love is relatively inconvenient, huh? It's not a theory
Until I can enjoy it,
Get many many time!!

Kyon then cast his gaze over to Yuki, one of the most stoic members of the SOS Brigade. He had assumed that the alien would be like him and not be taken by the atmosphere. He was proven wrong when Yuki launched into her guitar solo, and was shocked by the sudden passion and heat she put into her playing.

The cue Haruhi was talking about earlier finally. She sauntered over to Kyon and the boy obliged. They stood back to back, Kyon letting go of his bass in order to place his fingers on the strings of Haruhi's guitar. He held the chords while she strummed, still playing fervently as she did before. The crowd went absolutely wild for their gimmick. The boy slide his hand down the neck, Haruhi quickly replacing her hand as he went back to his spot on the stage.

After he, Yuki and Haruhi played their final chords, he strummed his with a flourish. He may had bopped his head to the rhythm himself without him realizing it.

It was a weird time to recall it but the girl looked like how she was when she and Yuki stood in for ENOZ. There was a sheen of sweat on her forehead and she was panting, adrenaline pumping through her veins. He and Yuki stopped playing, giving Haruhi her turn in the spotlight. She moved closer to the mike, closing her eyes while singing the final stanza and bridge.

If even my mind will change, so will tomorrow
Turning around, bringing peace,
I go, go my way
Love is relatively inconvenient, huh? It's not a theory
Until I can enjoy it...

I want to gaze at you, I want to look; it's impossible, after all
It gets so rough, and I start to run
I miss you, baby
The love I've known only had the frustration of jealousy

I left that and ran away, but
It's already good-bye! Bye, first love

[The final note played in the dream woke Kyon up. He sat up quickly, panting. It has been a while since that day Haruhi decided to start a band.]

That's it! [He flops down again on the bed, digging the heel of his hand to his forehead.] Too much concert planning has finally gone all to my head.

[Grooooans.]

dream, too much concert planning, we has band fever yo, public, no more sound worm, sound around, ic
