Dream effects: The dream is shrouded in darkness. Although Kyon and middle school!Haruhi can't see each other, the viewer can see the both of them clearly.

Nagato and Asahina-san left messages for me before everyone went home that day. Nagato's was gibberish ('Before she told me what it meant, that is.') while Asahina-san told me I needed to stay behind...

[There was no point turning back. The truth behind what happened during that fateful day came spilling out. Mikuru bringing Kyon 3 years into the past, him helping a younger Haruhi writing out her message on the field, Nagato's part in bring the intrepid pair back into the present. He knows it sounded crazy and well, out of this world. But at this point, knowing this girl for almost six months and then ending up in Somarium, the word "impossible" has become a passing fancy.]

I know it sounds really "out there" but that's what happened.

[Honestly, he had no idea how Haruhi will take this. He had told her the honest to goodness truth before and she shot him down pretty hard. What would make this time so different? As much as Kyon is a skeptic by nature, he can't deny the natural curiosity that strikes him from time to time.]
