Just a week ago I signed up for the self-publishing company to design a custom cover for Beyond the Ocean's Edge. Today I got back two variations of what they came up with, based on the images I'd sent and the instructions I gave. One is darned close to what I had in mind. The other is a bit different but still kinda neat. I'll probably go with the first, but I do have some minor changes to suggest. The biggest is to restore some four-pointed stars to white on blue as in the icon with this post. It has some significance to the story. I'm also thinking that some of the stuff on the back cover should be split into two paragraphs. All in all I'm amazed at how quickly the two concepts were done, and how well. I might keep the second one in mind for the next book, Sailing Dangerous Waters. Of course I'd need a different painting, but I've been giving that some thought and maybe one of these days I'll see what I can come up with.
Yesterday I finished reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. What a tremendous book! In the near future I'll see if I can write a review that will do it justice. If I do, I'll post it here. Now I'm reading Stand Into Danger by Alexander Kent. It is the second Bolitho story and allows me to get back to the Naval Adventure/Age of Sail stories that I so truly like.
