Evidently I didn't get back to posting as often as I would like, so to get started again, here is an excerpt from Chapter Eleven, "News From Across the Sea," from Darnahsian Pirates: The Third Stone Island Sea Story.  And to accompany the excerpt, my first try at cover art for the first book in the series... which in my files is labled as "False Start One."

“There is the possibility of a naval force, a squadron to press the issue and force the release of people and property.  Once again, we are not united enough to carry it off.  No one Land has a navy or a naval militia strong enough, and animosity between Lands is at an all-time high.  It would be nearly impossible to combine even two or three services in to anything powerful enough.”
“Dire news indeed. Surely there must be something?” asked Hotchkiss, taking a sip of the gentleman’s grog he had come to enjoy.
“I’ve had an idea in mind, Isaac, ever since Father’s dreams told us you, or more specifically Edward, had returned.”
           “I don’t follow,” said Hotchkiss.
           “Nor I,” said Pierce.
“One of the problems is finding someone to command a combined fleet.  Officers and men of one Land often will not follow those of another.  If we send a fleet to force the release of our people and our vessel, we need an individual all will follow and obey without question.”
“You are saying I would be…”
“You may not realize it, but you are something of a hero across all of Vespica.  When you were here previously, you bolstered Vespican pride.  Everyone remembers HRMS Hawke, outrunning those Galician frigates, and your part the battle between HRMS Furious and the Galician Seine.”
“I’m sure some see it as worthy,” said Pierce.
“We do, Captain,” said Mally.  Until now, he and Talbot had remained silent.  “Rest assured, the feeling is echoed throughout Vespica.”
“I believe, Edward, you should offer your services as commander a combined fleet, one that would sail to the Darnahsian Coast and force a settlement.”
“I am grateful you and presumably others think I am the man for this duty.  But I must give it some thought.”
“That is fair.  I shall be here for a week or more, but then I must return to Mainland Vespica.  If you decide not to command, I will go back alone.  If you agree, come with me.  Make your offer directly to the Joint Council.  Speak to those members connected with their Lands’ maritime and naval affairs.”
“I must be sure it is the right thing to do.   I must know everyone supports my decision.”
           “Yes.”
“But we must rescue Papa!” Evangeline’s lip trembled and her voice was more forced.
“On second thought, Edward, come with me, regardless of your choice.  Father would like to see you again.  He would love to meet your bride, and he is especially anxious to meet the boy.”
In the bustle of the doctor’s arrival and the evening gathering, no mention had been made of Evangeline’s child.  Nor had circumstances allowed him to be pointed out to the new arrival.       “You know of Glenn Lewis?”
“You forget my father is Dream Chief.”
