A day of fruit and geekiness

The thing about produce in Prague is, the good stuff does exist. You just have to go to a couple different places (which means matching my shopping to where I am for my last class of the day. Because I have to carry it home on public transport, on top of my books and whatnot for class, I have to shopping 3-4 days a week, funfun), and be really flexible. The ovocny near Cez has cheap cucumber, big peppers, occasionally papaya, they used to have good strawberries but not anymore...but today they had CORN. (My home city's main crop is corn, during harvest the supermarkets are bursting with it and you can buy it from farmer stands just driving down the street. I kind of took corn for granted, and I really miss it.) I was so excited I actually squealed, "Omigod, they have corn!!" and got a few funny looks. Oh well. I'm still pumped, that's gonna be my dessert tonight.

Albert usually has good avocados and they're the only store with baby spinach, but their ginger is overpriced and their fruit usually sucks. But today, oh, today they had red currants and blueberries! Blueberries have been out for a few weeks here, but they've been really bad quality, and by bad quality I mean shriveled and covered in mold. I cannot even convey my glee at finding good blueberries, 60kc was a splurge but it's worth it. The red currants were a treat, I've only ever had them in juice and they're super pretty so I couldn't resist trying them, they're quite good. Hypernova usually has nice small peppers that can be eaten all at once, and they have the best plums/peaches/apricots, so I'll try and grab those tomorrow. But perhaps the peaches will be crap but they'll have a batch of massive carrots so I'll get those instead, ya never know. The other day Hypernova had good asparagus, oooo (holy hell it was expensive, 80kc, but asparagus is rare and thrilling). Adventure!

Yes, I'm subsisting almost entirely on veggie wraps. :D The unpredictability of the produce means I haven't gotten bored yet! I'm probably lacking protein, but I do eat the occasional meat/dairy, and I've been feeling so much better (I'm sure the multi-vitamins brought by my parents are helping with that too) that I'm going to carry on. Man, I think I really did have scurvy or something, I was some kinda deficient in like, everything.

If anyone has any recipes that just need very simple ingredients (like, no spices) and very easy prep, please do pass them on. If they include some cooking, please, for the love of god, give me a temperature and time. I can't cook. I don't know how to cook chicken, or tofu, or anything, assume absolute beginner level knowledge here.

I need a sub for some classes in August. Normal sub-finding procedure is taping a paper with the basic info on the mirror and bathroom door at the teacher center. I was making my sub sheets and Tereza said, "You should put some stars and hearts on them, then people will notice them more". So I did, and then said "Wait, but now only the girly girls will want the classes!" Tereza responded that I should put some boy things on too, like cars. "Hmm...how about a robot?" "Great!" So I drew a robot. That reminded me of R2D2, so I drew him saying Help me Subi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!
Then on the next sheet I drew an S shield saying Be my hero!, a W saying You're wonderful!, and a lightning bolt saying You'll make $ in a flash!
The other teachers are going to think I'm insane, but at least Tereza was amused.

On the way home, I noticed the tag on the sweater of a guy standing near me on the tram. S. Oliver.
"Don't make a white ape joke, don't make a white ape joke..."
Yes, I know it's Solivar, but it was close enough to amuse me. And yes, I'm aware that almost nobody knows what I'm talking about, just...just go with it.
