Ah the glory of good atlases :) I spent way too long last night poring through them in barnes and noble, sprawled on the floor surrounded by 3 giant atlases, comparing all the important points. For my main atlas I chose the biggest baddest mofo of them all, National Geographic. They have a great spread of informational world maps, and for some reason I just really like their map style. Oxford has good information too, but a blah layout that bores me, whereas I get excited just looking at NG maps, i want to read them! Plus NG has webpages for all the maps so you can get updates without having to buy a new atlas constantly, which is great cause i want this baby to last as long as possible. it just just updated this year :) Then for my world history and baby atlases I chose DK. I'm really excited about the world history one because, like i said earlier, i have a horrid time learning history from regular books. but i tested myself and i'm much more engaged in learning history with maps, which means i concentrate and remember better, and i'm actually eager to read!
The guy at the checkout counter (who was cute, if anyone knows him hook me up yo) did a wide-eyed double take and said "Whoa" when i brought them to the counter :D i laughed and said i know. he was stunned for the whole transaction, as he bagged them he was like "I can't believe you carried these around!", and at the end asked me "So do you just really like atlases or do you need them for something?" I said "I really like them, and I'm an International Studies major". Very amusing. Must find some way to flirt with hot book boy. i think i'll be using B+N as my hangout from now on ;)
In the car I was so happy about my atlasi that i was literally bouncing up and down and bursting into giggles. I'm such a nerd.
