I need to find a pretty icon to represent ATB. Today started with a plot breakthrough. Let's hope the rest of the day goes so well.
This excerpt comes right after Mackenzie has spared a History for the first time:
I scold myself while scrubbing the dirt and dust out of the corners of the coffee shop.
He’s probably on Wesley’s list. He’s got to be on somebody’s list. Just because he’s not on mine, doesn’t mean I can turn a blind eye. That’s a good way to describe his eyes. Blind-eye blue. But he could see, I’m sure. He saw me, saw me and smiled and…God Mac, give it a rest! I scrub harder. Scrub away the grime and the fluttering feeling in my chest when I think of my name on his lips. Pathetic.
“I think you’ve gotten the dust out, love,” chuckles my father, appearing with a cup of coffee and a paint roller. He is painting swatches on one of the walls, squares of color to show Mom. Umber. Teal. Marigold. I look back at my square of floor, which shines, and actually seems a different shade entirely from the rest of the floor. Tiles we had thought were gray are actually off-white, and I wonder if they match the awnings. A soft, cream, like latte foam. I shift a few feet to my left, out of the corner, and begin again.
ETA: I've been super hesitant to give a teaser of either of my two male characters, because they're spoilery, but next week there will be one!
