Office 19, Tuesday

Bob was snoring softly on the end of Glinda's desk, where "he" lay in a plastic ball. Next to him, a plate of chocolate chip peanut butter cookies sat, waiting.

Glinda was busy drinking tea and wondering why the hell she'd been asleep this entire weekend. Now she had two topics to cover on Friday ( Read more... )

Minsc had mostly blamed the rousing adventure he'd had all through last week (and the subsequent conks to the head that were involved, as could be expected) for having almost entirely forgotten about cookies and hamster meetings. Boo, of course, clearly very eager to make new hamster friends, had not forgotten and had graciously reminded Minsc in his special miniature giant space hamster fashion, which could not be explained, but only accepted as fact that that was how it happened.

"Lady Glinda!" Minsc appeared in the doorway with his usual brusque, jolly greeting, uncaring if anything was being interrupted. "Hullo! And may I presume that to be our Sir Bob in the bubble there?"

"Yes, although he does not seem to be very excited," Glinda said, poking the ball.

Bob got up, yawned, and blinked. Hey, another hamster in the room!

"Or maybe," Minsc suggested brightly, "he was too excited and grew faint from overstimulation! Say hello to Sir Bob, Boo!"

And, promptly, Minsc thrust out his hand, holding poor Boo, for the hamster to do just that.

Glinda beamed, and Bob was moved from "his" ball to the desk.

Bob looked Boo over quizzically. If the littler hamster's face had been designed with eyebrows, one would have been raised in an expression of "This is what all the fuss was about?"

"And look, Boo!" continued Minsc happily, already able to tell that the two of them were just hitting it off swimmingly, and he set the rodent on the desk. "There are those cookies Lady Glinda so graciously baked for you,"--WINK--, "too!"

Bob wandered over and sniffed Boo for a moment, and then ran a few inches away and looked at the other hamster.

"I think they're playing tag!" Glinda said, completely engrossed in watching them.

There was a moment, when Sir Bob went up to Boo, where Minsc's attention was sharply on them, as if any questionable or sudden movements or touching of the miniature giant hamster would surely result in having regular hamster for dinner that evening, but the moment passed and Sir Bob had shifted away, and Minsc nodded, relaxing.

Boo, meanwhile, had sniffed Bob back, looked around a little when Bob moved away, and then went to sniff Bob again.

Minsc chuckled. "So it would seem!" he said. "Get 'em, Boo!"

Of course, Boo had really only been curious about the new hamster, then curious about where the new hamster kept its food, and then curious about the new hamster again because there was something different about this new hamster.

Glinda held up the plate of cookies to Minsc. "Hungry?" she asked. "The hamsters aren't probably going to notice a few gone." Bob blinked at Boo, and cocked "his" head to one side, and then approached him for another sniff. Glinda took note of this and asked, "Does Boo not know how to play Earth tag?"

"Oh, thank you!" Minsc said, taking a cookie from the plate and very promptly eating it, which meant that he was very decorous in responding to the rest of Lady Glinda's query through the mouthful of cookie. "I fink 'e 'oes, buff if juff mebbe not wanting to be unfarf to Sir Bob."
