Let's talk about the quote image above..shall we? That quote is from a former popular show called, One Tree Hill. The show started in 2003 and ended in 2012 at it's eighth season. I'm not writing this blog to update anybody on the history of this show, characters, storylines, etc. What I want to focus on is the quote above and how it was from an episode that aired in 2004. Almost 10 years ago, that statement above was made and I feel like it's more relevant now than ever.
I'm pretty much an unashamed self-proclaimed feminist. I know the majority of society cringes at that word and what it implies. Most people probably get the idea that "feminists" are crazed man haters who just want women to take over everything. But that's really not the case, at least for me it isn't. You see I want EQUALNESS...EQUALITY if you will. I'm a firm believer that everything and everyone should be treated with a balance that is fair. Now I know that's probably a utopic concept, but it's just my values and what I think should stand, no matter what. I'm in my 20's with still a lot of life to live (if the lord allows me to)..and I've never been so disheartened by how our society bashes women. We've all seen the double standards, especially when played out in the media with celebrities. A male celebrity is practically a God who can do no wrong...it doesn't matter how many women they're linked to/sleep with, or how many clubs and parties they fall drunk out of, or even what type of career choices they make. There's hardly ever any judgement, criticism, or backlash. Women are at a complete disadvantage with mostly whatever we do, I mean let's face it..we already make less than the guys in any job field we go into and respect? Let's not get into that aspect because you know it's a basic pipedream that a women gets half as much as man with that. And it's not like this issue hasn't been addressed; There's been many blog writeups, studies, speeches, movies, documentaries..etc about the elephant in the room. All of this information is readily available at anyone's disposable. So why does society continue to ignore and just make things worse for us women?
