Days were passing by slowly for Shrads. In the meantime she had her induction session and met her friends there. The HR lady(Ice Princess), mentioned earlier seemed to make fun of Shrads just bcoz she asked if they would be having a designated leave or not. Also there were 2 shocks in store for the MBA cadre. The man who had taken the initiative of recruiting out of B-Schools was resigning(it was later that Shrads came to know that he was actually made to leave since he could not get along well with some people) AND that their probabation period was going to be extended from 3 months to 6 months. The entire MBA cadre looked at each other with question marks writ large on their faces. They certainly couldn`t digest the double shock which the company had dished out for them along with the biscuits in front of them.
Shrads had calculated that since she had joined in the month of May, her probation would get over by July. But now she calculated the 3 extra months of slogging...oops...probation and it came to October which was her birthday month. Shrads was already getting negative vibes about her job and she hoped she wouldn`t be jobless by the time she turned 24 in October.Life didn`t get sadder than this.
Shrads expected some kind of solace after talking to her friends. But no!!! She had expected them to rip into their respective bosses with all the vengeance that she carried for her`s in this short time. But she was disappointed. Neither Shyam nor Chaitanya had anything bad to say about their bosses. These were the very friends with whom she used to do post-mortem of every subject teacher of theirs if they got a bad review of their presentations. And they seemed to have a good time in their offices. Shyam`s boss`s name resembled a cricketer`s.Just for the record you know.
So Shrads was left once again with the feeling that she was an island and all bad things in life were happening to her. A crappy boss, crappier sub-ordinates and the crappiest season of the year. Life didn`t get worse than this!!!
Sometime back, the topic of men being acquainted with Shrads at the new place was brought up. Well, there is one more specimen worth mentioning here. This man entered Shrads` life stealthily. Without making any sort of noise, without attracting any sort of special attention from Shrads. She later came to know that was how he was by nature. He too was a speaker. Shrads normally spoke to speakers who came to her office for the sake of maintaining good professional rapport. But looking at this one, Shrads was intimidated. Now Shrads is not the kind of girl who would be intimidated by a guy`s tough look. She had more substance in her than that, and men who tried to pull those kind of stunts on her were stone-walled or cold-shouldered. For. eg: Mr. Hideous-gelled-spiky-hair-look AKA Sidekick no.2. She was someone who went for brain rather than brawn. A girl who would love a guy arguing with her, challenging her to a verbal duet rather than being physical with her on the first date.
So coming back to Mr. Darawana. His name was actually Parin. And he was not the stereotypical Mills & Boon hero.Tall, dark and handsome. Au contraire, he was short, just an inch or two taller than her. Fairer than her(much to her chagrin...SI Aunty called him gori chamdi...). And not handsome in the way that girls would think filthy thoughts of him after one look at him. No he was more...CUTE... Yes, thats what Shrads could say later. While Shrads hated Mr. Hideous-look-gelled-spiky-hair`s hair, this guy had really nice hair which looked soft, parted in the middle and had a kind of natural unruly look to it. The kind of hair a girl would want to put her hands into. Also he was bespectacled, just like Shrads. But Shrads didn`t have the impression that he was cute in the first look. Coz he flitted past her even before she could acknowledge him. Even while passing by in the corridor, while other male specimen couldn`t resist the urge to look at Shraddha(not because she was atractive or anything), this guy merely batted an eyelash. Not that Shrads would mind. If he can think too much of himself, Shrads was no less.
The Mr. Nose in the Air( Nakchada Bandar) took his session & then came out. A senior of his wanted to consult with him over something. The senior enquired regarding the material to be provided to the clients and when would it be ready???. Mr. Bandar, in a voice which belied the cuteness of his face, said," I have been ready with the material for the past 15 days, nobody from so-and-so functional department has bothered to contact me." Shrads, who thought that when you worked for an organisation, you are like a huge family and you cover the short-comings or mistakes of your co-workers just like you do to your family members. But no. The scene here was different. Shrads decided to stay away from Cutie Pie/Prince Charming.
