Gender: Female
Movie/series: Peter Pan 2: Return To Neverland
Canon history:
LinkNon-Speaking Animal Companion (if any): Nana II, her Saint Bernard
Powers (if any): None
Year/Position: 6th Grade Student
Personality:
Jane is a smart, considerate girl. One who often tries to act much older (as well as much braver) than she actually is. Jane had to grow up rather quickly due to her father being drafted for war. In his absence, Jane took it upon herself to care for her mother and younger brother. She can’t bring herself to enjoy her childhood like most children do because of all the responsibility she has put upon herself. She likes to picture herself a brave soldier like her father, but deep down she is very much a homesick little girl. She misses her family terribly, but doesn’t dare confide that to anyone. Adults don’t get homesick and cry, after all. She also believes that playing and listening to fairy tales are childish wastes of time. She instead prefers to put her efforts into things she considers important, like studying and planning. But even though she tries her hardest to act mature, she can still get easily frustrated and throw tantrums every now and then. And deep down, she actually would like to be able to act a tiny bit more like a child.
AU history:
Jane was never kidnapped by Hook. The children of London were evacuated to the countryside, including her younger brother, but Jane's mother chose to send her off to the Disney Academy instead. At first Jane was very much against it. She had promised her father she would be the one to protect the family while he was off fighting in the war, and she couldn't very well do so away at some strange school. But then she thought about the strange mist and how the people at the academy were trying to fight against it. She decided that if her father was being a brave soldier, so would she.
Greatest Fear:
To never see her father again.
Greatest Desire:
To make her father proud of her and to take care of everyone around her.
What are your plans for this character:
Jane entered the academy thinking herself to already be very mature and grown up, but it's the experiences she will go through there and the people she will meet that are going to be what truly help her grow as a person. She may even help others change as well.
❦ Character Writing
Third person writing sample:
She let out another shriek and ducked for cover as the sound of more planes and falling bombs grew louder. The whistling. The horrible, chilling whistling of the bombs plummeting to Earth filled her with more terror than anything else in her entire life. She threw herself into an alley and held herself as the ground shook beneath her.
“Mother... daddy...”
Her body trembled pitifully. She had never felt so much like a child before. If only she could be home, safe in her room and tucked into bed.
Fearfully she looked up and saw her very house in the distance.
Once the horrific booming sounds around her subsided, she made a mad dash for it. She sped over the very street she used to play on as a small child with the other neighborhood children. The hopscotch court she drew once was still there in fact, but her frantic footsteps left it a smeared mess.
Just a little further. She was nearly close enough to reach the door handle. Once inside she would run into her mother’s welcoming arms, gather Danny up in hers and press her head against Nana II’s soft fur. Perhaps her father would be there too. Perhaps they were all waiting for her. Waiting to become a family again.
She finally reached the handle and clutched it tightly in her hand like a lifeline. But just as she was about to fling the door open, she heard the whistling. The horrible, chilling whistling of another bomb dropping, this time on her very house. The explosion overtook her, and all Jane could see was white.
She sat up in her cot in the bunkers, screaming and clawing her arms around frantically. “NO! NOOOO!! MOTHER!! DADDY!!”
For a moment she was lost in blind panic before feeling a furry hand place itself in hers. She turned and saw Mr. Lotso sitting beside her, his tired eyes filled with concern. Before he could even say anything, Jane threw her arms around the bear and sobbed. She would feel guilty about drenching his fur with her tears later, and for acting like such a child, but right now she needed to hold something.
That terrible mist. If only it had truly disappeared. Then she could be safe at home right now, instead of trapped in this dark bunker, having nightmares and weeping pathetically. Her father would be so disappointed if he saw his brave little soldier now.
If he was even still alive.
First person writing sample:
[Jane sat there on her cot trembling for several minutes, holding Mr. Lotso close. She didn’t know what to think after suddenly hearing her comm spring back to life, as well seeing the news reporter again. Had the mist truly receded? She was reluctant to believe so after the false news of it vanishing days ago, but the humming in her ears was finally beginning to fade. Was it... really gone?
She timidly looked around the bunker, trying to decide what action to take judging by what the other girls did. She saw one of the staff members, Miss Elisa, out of the corner of her eye.]
M-Miss Elisa...?
[Her voice must have been too low and shaky for anyone to hear, for Miss Elisa didn’t notice it at all. So instead Jane turned her gaze down to the teddy bear in her arms.]
Mr. Lotso... w-what should we do now? Can we leave the bunker? I... I must call mother...
[She trembled again, picturing her mother in her mind, all alone with Nana II back in their house in London. Had they made it through? Was Danny alright? What of her father? Jane felt tears well up in her eyes once more, growing horribly anxious to contact home.]
