Since the time that I decided that a government job was where I wanted to go I've applied for four positions (three federal government jobs, and one provincial). Of the jobs I've applied for, I think I am qualified for all of them. I wouldn't say that you're 'different'... and that is precisely what ticks me off about it all.

I guess to acheive this "equity" that the government seeks, it makes no sense to me to discriminate against anyone. I'm sure the KKK (if they still exist) has that printed in a pamphlet somewhere...

To a degree, I'd rather be in my position than yours. I work with an Engineer (who is from the Punjab region of India) who worked for the city of London for more than thirty years. He finally quit because he had told them previously that if they ever offered him the City Engineer's position again he would do so. He was/still is totally convinced that they were offering him the position based solely on his race, and didn't want the promotion. He's one of the smartest men I've ever met... he probably brings 80% of the business into our firm through his contacts who recognize him as an ethical individual, who knows what he's talking about, in an industry flooded with crooked bull-shit producers.

I could draw a quick conclusion on the basis of this post and the responses to it, that nobody likes this employment equity crap. I wonder where it came from?
