Day 31
September 18th

It was a short drive today, but it was long enough for it to sink in that this most likely my last fun day before heading home. After leaving the hotel, I stopped to get my oil changed in Ohio. I had noticed this place yesterday when I got to the hotel, so I kinda planned on getting it done if there wasn't a long wait. I'm noticing a lot more New York license plates on the road and there are an abundance of toll roads, so I must be close. After driving around the country for the last 30 days, I can definitively say that New York has one of the best looking license plates currently on the road. Any states that are no longer stamping their plates need to get their heads checked. What a piss poor way to respresent your state to the rest of the country. I have a very low opinion of quite a few states strictly based off their license plates. I wish more people cared.

I'm in a suburb of Pittsburgh right now. This hotel is really nice and was pretty cheap as well. I got to Pittsburgh right around check-in time, so I had a little time to mosey around and sip a couple brewskys before the game. Thinking back, the KC stop was fun for those reasons, so I tried to recreate that a little bit. I'm about to call a cab to take me to the Pirates game. I don't think the stadium is too far. I hope to get another ice cream helmet to round out my collection. My friend Mike has an extra ticket to the Rangers Devils preseason game on Wednesday, so that gives me something to look forward to when getting home. The weather looks shitty tomorrow, for the first time this entire trip and it seems fitting.

The Pirate's stadium was awesome. It's newer than the others that I'd visited so it had more of a vibe similar to Citifield. The other parks were much older and sorta lacking in the food department. Shit, they didn't even have sprinkles at Wrigley Field or Dodger Stadium. The ballpark is right on a river, so the views beyond the outfield are really cool. Pittsburgh has a ton of bridges and some of them are lit up and animate. It's really cool to see this from the ballpark. A tugboat sorta thing even drove by at one point and blasted the horn. There were also some familiar players on the field, both for the Brewers and the Pirates. Some of the Pirates have pretty good walk-up music too. I was actually rooting for the Pirates, but they stunk. I did eventually find the ice cream helmets, on the lower deck.

I also roamed around with it and sat in a few different locations to really get a feel for the ballpark. For me, it's nice to be able to see the scoreboards, especially without my radio. It makes it easier to follow the game if I'm able to see the big ones in the outfield. When I buy a ticket, I always just buy the cheapest ticket, ideally in the very last row on the first base-line. If I'm alone, I don't like there being people behind me, so the last row is tite.

I was pretty hungry after the game and I was on a mission to find Primanti Bros. Google maps said there was one on the block, but I think that one musta been inside the ballpark, because it was nowhere to be found. The next closest one was not too far, less than a mile just across the river. I followed the sea of people over the bridge and stopped to take a pic of the Roberto Clemente statue. What a legend.

At Primanti, I took a seat at the bar and ordered a big ol Yuengling and a ragin' cajun sandwich. I didn't really get to snap a good pic of the sandwich because I didn't wanna be that guy, but here's one.

The sandwich is loaded with this really tasty cole slaw and a pile of french fries. I used to not dig cole slaw at all, but since losing my sense of smell, I've stopped being such a picky eater. There are still a few things I don't mess with, namely eggs, but I eat most things now. With my diminished sense of taste, texture is super important. That means that things like mushrooms or anchovies are still gnarly to me and I have no desire to eat those things. But stuff that used to freak me out-like mayonaisse on a sandwich or sour cream on a burrito-are not a problem anymore. I've found that they usually help to enhance the meal.

Now I'm rambling, and I have 10 minutes until I have to check-out of this sweet ass hotel room. I kinda wish I could live here for a few more days, but I've got to get back home for that Rangers game. I'm also eager to get my teeth and hernia fixed.
