Day 10
August 28th
As I was laying in bed last night, I heard someone jiggling the hotel room door. It must have been around 2AM. At first I didn't realize what the noise was, but I had the door latched up so I wasn't too worried. Most likely it was just some jabroni who was lost and couldn't find their room, but who knows. That did make it a little hard to fall asleep, but I managed.
I woke up early - well before my alarm went off. I was woken by a very vivid dream that I was seeing another solar eclipse. It felt very real at first, but once the sun was completely covered up, there was this weird animated skull in the middle of the ring. The skull was strange, but then it got even weirder. The skull morphed into that Conor McGregor dude's face and he was laughing maniacially. With that, I was out of bed and started packing up. I jumped in the shower and then hit the road. Not first without checking the room about 14 times to make sure I had all my shit.
The drive was pretty easy today. I hit a bit of traffic and some really nasty rain in St. Louis, but other than that it was smooth sailing. The last hour of driving was especially nice. St. Louis was a mess traffic-wise and it was raining real bad. It was tricky to see the car in front of you and impossible to see the lanes in the highway. The road was also under construction, so each lane was at a different level. If you drifted lanes, you were fucked. It was gnarly. Once I got a little further from St. Louis, the sun started to come out and traffic really thinned out. With about half an hour til my destination, I realized there were no other cars near me on the highway. I put Dopesmoker on and rolled down all the windows. I felt bliss in this moment and I easily could have kept driving.
The hotel I picked is actually in a really cool spot and the price couldn't be beat. I really lucked out there. I'm in the room now, but I should grab dinner and get back to this.
I saw on the map that there was a Panda Express just down the road from the hotel, so I jumped in the car and went to check it out. It's rare to find one of those not in the mall, so I always get excited when I do. So far in the 1000+ miles I've driven, this was the first. I got there just in time. As I pulled up to the drive thru, an automated message came on saying that they were closed. I said, "oh shit" and started driving off, but then I heard a woman's voice come on the speaker. She welcomed me to Panda Express and said they were about to close, so they don't have the full menu. I said, "No problem, thank you. Do you have any orange chicken?" She said that they did, so I lucked out again. After that, I hit up the gas station next to the hotel and grabbed a couple drinks and snacks for the room.
The food was bangin, and eating in the hotel room made this feel more like a work trip or something and less random and weird. What you're lookin at right there is pretty much my night. I still need to book the hotel in Kansas City and get a ticket for the Royal's game tomorrow. Then I'll get some sleep.
Food:
Dunkin Donuts - coffee
Buger King - chicken sandwich
Panda Express - orange chicken
