Day 8
August 26th
I woke up in a comfortable hotel bed here in Nashville, thanks to Amber and Lacy. Those two are so generous and I kept telling them that I don’t deserve this. Lacy has this hotel room booked until Monday morning. He and Amber are heading out tomorrow morning, but they said that I’m welcome to stay Sunday night and kick it here all day on Sunday. There’s apparently a nice pool at the hotel, so I may do just that. I still need to try the Nashville hot chicken as well. This will give me some time to explore Nashville a little more and figure out the route from here to Denver. I originally intended to stop in St Louis on Sunday and then Kansas City on Monday, continuing on from there to Denver. I’d like to be in Denver by Tuesday or Wednesday.
I got dressed and I hit up the Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru that’s near the hotel. I grabbed some munchkins to bring to the yard sale that Lacy and Amber were having at their friend's house. I got there and hung out with them all day on the front lawn as people stopped and browsed the wares. Lacy was selling a lot of cool and interesting things from his childhood. It was nice to hear the stories behind the items, and it was an absolute treat watching Lacy interact with the people who stopped by.
Lacy used uber eats to order us a bunch of chicken nuggets from McDonalds, so the “chicken” streak continued.
Later that night we headed to the Five Points neighborhood for some food and to also check out this bar Duke's. The pizza place was called Five Points Pizza and there was a short wait, so we killed time at a bar around the corner and had some "
bushwhackers". It's a local frozen drink that is quite tasty. It was the perfect texture, which I've found is rare with frozen cocktails.
After we finished our bushwhackers, we got a table at the pizza place and started off with what may have been the tastiest garlic knots I've ever had.
The pizza was good too and we took a couple slices to-go. We walked around the block and there it was...
Duke's is Clem's sister bar in Nashville, owned by a couple of the long-time bartenders at Clem's. I'm a dum dum and didn't realize it was in Nashville until I texted my friend Adam and he let me know to go there. Good thing I reached out, I'd have been bummed if I stopped thru Nashville without seeing it. We each had a federale, which just about put me over the edge. I was pretty buzzed at that point and there was no way I could continue to drink any more. We went back to the hotel and got some sleep after that.
