Hi Grace. I don't know if you remember me (I still have account schizophrenia, if that rings any bells). It's been a few years since we've talked, but you probably would know me as Naz, N-chan, some variant thereof. I don't know if this is the best entry to post a comment on because it sounds like a lot has happened since we last talked and this is completely unrelated and that sounds important. But. I figured I'd let you know who I was because I thought you'd like to know who this strange name belonged to.
If you remember me and want to talk, great. If not, that's fine, your prerogative, but I wanted to check in and say hello. I hope all is well (even though this entry leads me to believe they may not be?) and hope I do hear from you.

N-chan!! :O I've been thinking of you recently (I see your old usernames on lj and deviantart occasionally), how'd you show up so conveniently? haha

a lot has happened, yes, but I'm really not that much worse for wear on a day-to-day basis. things just catch up to me occasionally - I'm sure you understand.

how are you doing?

I have a knack for that. :p Runs in the family, I think.

Oh, I understand completely. I just ran through some of your old entries (cause I'm a creeper like that), it sounds like you've been up to a lot! But then, college can do that to a person. --I'm doing okay, keeping busy. Still haven't decided what I want to do when I grow up, despite four or more schools and a few degrees behind me. Staying occupied with a blog (mostly on aesthetics and lifestyle) and various art/writing projects (do you still have the same DA name? I've unified all my accounts, so mine is the same as it is here).

But it's been a long time. What school are you in/what for/what is interesting in your life now? :x

yep, same dA, though I'm too lazy to scan and edit anything nowadays so I just favorite things (herp derp)
I go to Southern Methodist University for animation (BFA/MIT), though it's rough going as I kind of hate everything to do with traditional art now thanks to my professors. My interests actually haven't changed much, only expanded. Videogames, jdramas/live-action, sort of an on again/off again relationship with anime. Got myself a boyfriend to harass so that's what my weekends are dedicated to :V

That's neat! I'm pretty much in the same boat--my interests have pretty much stayed the same since I was 16, I've just found more stuff. --and that's what boys are for! Harassing on weekends, I mean. But the animation is super awesome--is a lot of it still traditional? A friend of mine worked in comics for a while but went back to school for animation recently, since a lot of it is completely digital now? Or so I have drunkenly heard? It sounds interesting, I just know I would have no patience to do it myself. X3

animation as I want to do it, for game development, is almost strictly digital. even concept artwork is done with computers, though I suppose one could get away with pen and paper drawing and scan it later.
the problem is, to so much as get there, I have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops. it's essentially art 101 -> pick a specialization -> take a class in it for a couple of years -> graduate -> finally get to the grad program you've been waiting for.
so I'm not even allowed to use a computer right now. which kind of kills my whole desire, because I'm so not into art for charcoal, ink or gouache.

UGH. Man, I know how that goes. It's why I could never go to school for art. I mean, I understand why they do it that way--you need the technique/knowledge of the process, but for a field that is supposed to encourage creativity, art schools/school art programs really don't encourage individual styles/processes.
But hang in there because you'll eventually get into what you want to do, right?
