Yesterday I had already posted before I checked my snail mail... Later I discovered I got my Durham County Season 1 DVD set from Amazon.ca. Very surprised -- since I'd originally gotten an email saying it was out of stock at Amazon.ca, and would most likely ship September 2nd!
So I started watching it. eeeeee, it is so dark, and Mike Sweeney is (as
rubberbutton described Bender in The Breakfast Club) "so damaged, so delicious." I just have to ...eeeee!
I've finished eps 1-5... now I'm up to the last ep, which I will watch tonight after I get home from...
...Lollapalooza is tonight! Depeche Mode is headlining. I can't believe I first saw them at the
Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, which I think has a capacity of like 2,500 (probably less)...
(just checked their web site; says it can accommodate between 700 and 4,500 people; it wasn't that flexible in 1985, though!)
It was after they'd released Some Great Reward. They were so young and I remember thinking how skinny Dave Gahan was... but sexy as hell. I'll never forget him doing Master & Servant live in that tiny club and whipping the stage floor with his belt. Come to think of it, that probably cemented my BDSM fetish...
I saw a few really great people in that tiny venue: The Cure (on their The Head on the Door tour), Stevie Ray Vaughn...
It's been raining all day! Yuck! And I hate crowds. But I'm going to put up with them both for the sake of Depeche Mode. I mean, they are really the only reason I'm going to Lollapalooza. I know that sounds terribly unhip, but... oh well. That's me, terribly unhip.
I've loved DM for years and years. Listened to their dark music for... egad, 25 years! omg, I feel so old!! Dave Gahan is... *guh* And their music... well, I never stop buying their stuff. They're one of the few bands I still pay full price for their CDs. (Although typically I try to get them on sale when they're first released, for $9.99 or, if not that lucky, $11.99...)
Well, must eat something now or starve through the show... I believe they take the stage at 7pm or 8pm. My brother's picking me up & we're meeting my sister-in-law and step-nephew down there -- they went early, around 3pm... braving the rain. I just couldn't. Gah.
