Feb 17, 2013 01:36

title: Tell Him
pairing: Sehun/Lu Han
genre: angst
rating: pg
word count: 997 w
summary: It's amazing how love can make you miss someone, and can make you wait for that someone. Even if it takes years. Centuries. Millenia. Eternities. The End of Time itself. (written for exoplosion's third week drabble challenge)

Jongin comes in the dark room. He watches as the figure clad in white raises his hand. The glass orbs on the floor levitate, floating around to the side with a flick of the figure's wrist. Jongin can only hear breathing, the listless metallic thrumming of the power at work. The buzz hums around the room, bouncing off the walls, making the orbs dance as they hang in the middle of space.

"Jongin," the figure greets as he picks his way through the spheres. Jongin sees different sceneries reflected in the glass surfaces, visions of stars and galaxies and deserts and ice caps flashing through the crystal as the orbs move back and forth.

"Lu Han," Jongin greets back. Lu Han keeps his eyes on what he's doing, pale fingers caressing the air. "What are you doing?"

Lu Han doesn't answer, but Jongin knows. He knows he's still looking for what he cannot see, combing through the multiverse for something, anything, that will give him the assurance he's been yearning for ever since Darkness wreaked havoc, ever since the Tree of Life imploded and threw the Guardians to different corners of the existence like shrapnel.

Gradually, everything started to come together, being pulled back into the core, the remaining seed of the Tree of Life. Everything is slowly clicking into place, like puzzle pieces. But Lu Han has it the worst. He has to pick up the pieces.

Lu Han turns to face Jongin. Lu Han's eyes are wide, irises almost black in this light. He still looks the same, save for the fact that he looks so tired, the bone-deep tiredness written in the gold flecks of his eyes. The sadness is evident in the set of his smiling mouth, the tilt of his shoulders as he tries to stand tall and act brave.

"I know I can't thank you enough for what you did, for finding him for me," Lu Han says, smiling sadly, softly, at Jongin, "I don't know how I'll ever be able to repa-"

"It's fine, Lu Han. Really," Jongin hushes, placing a hand on Lu Han's shoulder. Lu Han flinches. He's never said it out loud, but Lu Han has developed a habit of flinching, of shying away from Jongin's touches. Maybe it's because the last person that held him, that touched him skin on skin, was the person he is still not able to see again, much less touch.

Jongin has never told Lu Han how he found him, after searching for as long as time itself. How Jongin found him in a barren wasteland, sitting down on a chair, surrounded with sand that spans out and out as far as his eyes could see. How there were tornadoes that tore at the dry grass, destroying all forms of life around him. How Jongin had to wrestle through the materialised columns of air, risking his life just to clamp his hands down on Sehun's shoulders and shake him. How Jongin nearly died from suffocation as Sehun tried to kill him by making the air inside his lungs still. Sehun had been in isolation for too long, the last one to be found, that he forgot how to feel.

All Jongin told Lu Han was how Sehun broke out of it, his blank eyes flashing as recognition dawned on him. How the first words that left Sehun's lips were, "Is Lu Han alright? Is he safe?" How Sehun had made Jongin promise to take care of Lu Han, keep him safe, and tell Lu Han that he would do everything to bring them together again. To be with him again.

"Are you going out to visit him today?" Lu Han asks suddenly, voice almost just above a whisper.

"Yeah," Jongin replies, "After I visit Baekhyun, I'd go to Sehun."

"Jongin, can," Lu Han starts, and his bottom lip starts trembling, "If you see him, can you please tell him to smile for me? I miss it." That's when Jongin sees it. The orb Lu Han is clutching tightly in his hand.

He's finally found it. Sehun's orb.

He can barely make out Sehun sitting down on that sand bleached chair, the winds playing with his silver hair as they rip at the atmosphere.

"Tell him-tell him I'm doing fine. Tell him I'm counting the minutes 'til we see each other again. It's going to be over soon. I'm-I'm doing everything I can." Jongin forgets that they haven't seen each other for so long, much longer compared to any of them. They've spent years upon centuries upon millennia upon eternities without each other that Jongin is still surprised how they kept the faith for so long.

There are times when Jongin resents having this power, his ability to teleport. This is probably one of them.

"Do you know where he is? Can you take me to him?" Sehun had asked him that day.

How he can cross parallels and places and planets and universes, but he can never make Sehun and Lu Han meet. How he can fold space to his will, but can never fold it enough for Sehun and Lu Han's fabrics of time to converge. How he can't do anything but be a messenger, and get them through until the End of Time comes.

“Tell him we’ll meet again.”

"I'll tell him," Jongin promises, "See you soon, Lu Han."

Jongin is steps away from the door handle when he hears him again.

"Jongin, wait!"

Lu Han is standing in the middle of the pitch dark room, glowing with his white clothes and his white skin. The orbs levitate around him with a soothing, monotonous thrum. He stares at the orb before looking up at Jongin, unshed tears in his eyes. He shoots Jongin a hopeful smile, and it's the most genuine smile Jongin has ever seen, and it's beautiful.

"If you see him, if you see Sehun, please tell him. Tell him that I love him."
