Who: Ned, Chuck
Open?: no
When: NOW
Where: outside the temple, then Chuck's pod
Things had definitely picked up for Ned, at least since Chuck showed up. Before her arrival, he'd been on the brink of depression, doing nothing but baking and sleeping to pass his time with some light snacking in between. It was amazing how he'd gone from pleasant and ready to go break some serious news to Aunts Lily and Vivian to the sad lump he was at Vertiline.
But Chuck was here now. And despite not being able to touch her, hold her, kiss her, Ned was happy. All he ever needed was her to be around.
Ned was leaving the Temple kitchen with a blueberry pie in hand. It was interesting working with fresh fruit here. Not picking something up and it ripening in his hand. Ned had always groaned and hidden his magic touch, but having not used it for months now, he felt... odd. Maybe not so much loss as tension. He was avoiding touching dead things here, not that the opportunity showed itself often.
Walking out of the Temple now, holding a pie, Capby trailing along cheerfully, Ned stopped to glance around. No one was around to see, so... Why not make sure he isn't rusty? Ned looked at Capby, who he knew wouldn't judge him, before bending to pick up a fallen leaf. As his fingers touched it, the brown turned to green--
...wait. No it didn't. It stayed brown, crunchy. Life didn't spring back into it, green didn't rush through its veins.
Ned dropped the leaf, looking around in slight panic. He picked up another leaf. Nothing. Maybe it was the leaves. Maybe they were magic anti-life leaves. He needed to try something else. Looking probably much like an idiot, or a crazed person, Ned got on all fours, setting his pie on the ground. An unlucky ant was going along its business nearby and Ned made a face before muttering an apology. He had to close his eyes to push his finger down on the insect, he felt so bad for killing it for his own experimentation. Now, eyes open, he tapped the black, lifeless body.
Nothing.
That was it. Official. Ned's heart leaped while his stomach dropped. His powers didn't work here. His powers didn't work here. Which meant only one thing to Ned.
The pie man sprung to his feet and took off at a full run, leaving his blueberry pie on the ground behind him for the kin of his insect victim to enjoy.
In no time, Ned was at Chuck's pod, knocking. "Chuck! Chuck, are you here? It's me!"
