Never have I heard more discouraging news than this proof that, as Cuervo Jones (in the film, "Escape From LA") said, "This is LA, vato, and this fucking city can kill anybody!":

Spider-Man 3 was written by Alvin Sargent, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, by Tom Stoppard (insipid dialogue rewrites only).

You'd be hard-pressed to find better scriptwriters than Stoppard and Sargent. Sargent can stand behind his impressive list of screen credits and his Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (Ordinary People, 1980), and Stoppard, his legendary stage plays (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Amadeus). Neither, I feel, should be held accountable for their failings.

It goes to show that Hollywood can make even the greatest writers look terrible.
