Got to the hospital around 10:45 this morning and visited with him for 5-10 minutes. He looked pretty groggy and restless and I started to talk to Marty (nurse #4) about his status. I asked about the MRI and he had it this morning. He had to be pretty heavily sedated because he wanted to move around and the space in the MRI is very small and you aren't supposed to move. So when I saw him he was still coming off the effects of the sedation.
I informed the nurse that we would be camping out in the waiting room today until we saw the doctor, so if she was around please send her our way. Jack, Marian and Mark all arrived and I swaped out with a couple of them so they could visit with pop. I set up camp in the waiting room and everyone joined me over time.
At about 12:30, worried that they might check the closer/smaller waiting room and skip the one we were in, I went to go inform Marty where we were and I heard one of the other nurses thanking "Dr. Scott" at which point I immediatly grabbed her, introduced myself and asked her if she could come talk to all of us in the waiting room when she had time. She immediatly walked down with me and explained that the MRI was good.
According to her, we are not out of the woods yet. The window is 5 days long, and after 5 days, if he is still doing doing as well as he is, then things should progress well. However, she did say that she's seen patients with similiar situations improve day 1, day 2 and then take a turn day 3. We're thinking postivily. She also told us that the stroke happened in the Thalimas which controls sensory function and wake cycles. She is a little concerned with his wake cycle being affected, but she won't really be able to determine that until the sedation wares off...so probably tommorrow. Tommorrow is also the speech and swallow test so tommorrow's a big day.
Over all things appear to be going alright. Our reaction to him is postive and the tests seem to be showing postive. Please keep doing whatever you all are doing and keep him and us in your thoughts. Wednesday is Day 5.
Thanks for all the love!
