Once again, it's the 12th of the month. And so, from the mind of
Chad Darnell...
August's Installment of 12 of 12! :)
8:00am ~ breakfast. Vanilla Yogurt Crunch Life and (of course) diet Coke
9:15am ~ Times Square. Look closely! You hardly ever see it THIS empty!
10:00am ~ Look out! It's a dragon! Nah...it's just the model of the Time Dragon Clock on the model set you can see at...
...Behind the Emerald Curtain. (also 10:00am)
10:15am ~ the dress Idina Menzel wore as Elphaba in Act II. The picture doesn't do it justice. It is absolutely beautiful ~ very intricate detail. We didn't hear the cost of this one. Kristin Chenoweth's Galinda dress from the beginning of Act I is $35,000. And there's one made for each actress. WOW!
10:20am ~ One of the props. The note Elphie receives when she's at Kiamo Ko. The one where she tells Glinda they will never see Fiyero's face again after reading it.
11:30am ~ Anthony Galde and me. He's one of the swings in the show...he's ready to go on for 9 different parts at a moment's notice. The most unique thing (and the reason this shot made 12 of 12 rather than the yet-to-come post with the tour pics) is that I've now seen him in TWO shows. He was in Starlight Express when I saw it at the Gershwin. Kismet! :)
11:45am ~ Erin! On the phone! We're in line for the Wicked lotto.
11:55am ~ the crowd outside the Gershwin waiting to hear if they won the lotto. This is MILD ~ especially for a Saturday. It's usually PACKED in there. We lost. (note the white fluff on the cement...you'll see it again)
12:45pm ~ I told you! This is Eva. I met her owner and his friends at the Wicked lotto, then again at The Drowsy Chaperone lotto. Erin and I talked with her friend Rey and he made a call and told us to write our names down on a post-it. He'd said try the lotto and if we didn't get it, come see him and he'd see what he could do. But...
1:10pm ~ We won. Erin's was the first name drawn. Yeah...we're wondering the same thing. But...we got to see Drowsy! :) It's awesome. Bob Martin is too cute for words. And Sutton Foster is divine. And Beth Leavel is amazing. And...well, it's awesome! See it if you're in NYC!!! It's worth it!
I could have had a Crossing Jordan link picture. Erin and I were at the stage door talking to Rey (we were inside). Kecia Lewis-Evans (she guested on CJ...I think as the desk nurse at Summit View...?) came through and was chatting with Rey. She is hysterical. "He was booking it today! The tempo was great. (singing) 'I'm Trix! The avaitrix...' Oh yeah. Keep it moving! We like it fast!" I seriously considered taking my camera out, but since we were there as Rey's guests kind of, I didn't want to impose. We figured afterwards she probably would have posed in a heartbeat. Oh well...maybe one day! She's our new favorite person though! HYSterical!
5:00pm ~ "Please Elton John, must we continue with this charade?" Ok, this makes me laugh. "Die young." It did. "Live forever." It did not. It closed in May (the 23rd? 28th?) Anyway...it's dead.
Our 13th bonus pic for this month was "homage". Being in NYC, it would have been WAY too easy to go down to lower Manhattan...but that felt like a cheap way out to me. So I thought and thought. And finally decided on this...
...because the fact that RENT even opened, much less is still playing, is homage to Jonathan Larson. And all those who live with AIDS. And those no longer with us.
